Notice the Iron Throne for once didn't hurt the King.

I don't really care for the part where Viserys thinks hes talking to Rhaeynra but instead tells Alicient about the prophecy.

It seems like they want us to think Alicient and Rhaenyra made up and will be friends again, but now Alicient will betray her out of a duty to protect the realm from the long night. It's like they're trying to justify Alicient's actions but it doesn't quite hold water in my opinion. Is she really going to go to war over something an old man drugged up full of milk of the poppy told her while essentially sleep talking? He didn't give her much detail or proof or anything to go off of. Plus if that scene never happens and Rhaenyra dies in the war then it could make sense that the prophecy is forgotten until Rhaegar re-discovers it years later

I actually don’t mind it.

I think Alicent is at a point where she feels some guilt over things she’s done and how things have turned out. But, she’s still resentful and angry with Rhaenyra. She’s still resentful that she’s in the position she’s been in. And she’s even turned to things like the Seven for some type of absolution for the shitty things she’s done.

I take her at this point to be the kind that will latch onto anything she can to justify her actions going forward, even if for personal gain. This gives her the perfect out for not accepting the situation and putting her own son on the throne.

It makes a lot of sense in that context.

Also, NYT did a fantastic interview with Paddy Considine over his role in the show. There was this little tidbit y’all might enjoy:

quote:

On his deathbed, Viserys mistakes Alicent (Olivia Cooke) for Rhaenyra, and reaffirms the prophecy to her. When she leaves, he seems to think he’s speaking to someone else.

The only suggestion [in the script] is that he doesn’t quite know who he’s talking to. I always had an idea in my head, whether it was useful to the story or not, that the last thing Viserys sees before he dies is the person who comes to collect him from this mortal life. When he dies, he sees Aemma, and he says, “My love.”

I just kind of improvised that line, and reached out a little bit, because this to me is a tragic love story, in many ways. But I kept that private; I never actually disclosed that in the end. I just thought, “If they use it, they use it,” and I hear it’s made the cut, so I’m really grateful, because it ends that story quite beautifully. The narrative I had in my mind was that he never really gets over Aemma, that he’s devastated for the rest of his life.

So that’s fricking heartbreaking.

Yeah, the creators also clarified that in the BTS feature(if there was any doubt).

I'm thinking these next 2 episodes are gonna be fantastic. Somebody's gonna die and the war really kicks off.

Not Viserys, it will be after that. It just feels like the Ned behedding type moment is coming soon.

I mean someone got their head sliced in half last night at the foot of the throne.

A lot of characters are ripe to make radically impulsive decisions so yes it's about to get very interesting. So much tension between the branches of the family and those that have married into it.

I don't think we're done picking sides either. There are lots of kids involved who may go their own way. It'll be interesting to see if Daemon/Rhaenyras kids will support Rhaenyras bastards. Their oldest son together will have a claim to be her heir as well

I don't think many characters in this show will die of old age

I mean he's going to try but Rhaenyra's kids have the benefit of Great Uncle/Daddy Daemon and his tutelage. People who are so outwardly against one person or one group have a way of attracting new enemies. It's why so much is decided behind closed doors and in secrecy. You don't always want all the ears and eyes in the room to be so sure who you are for or against.

For those that have read the book, without spoiling is it looking like we get the first dragon battle this season? Or are they waiting for next season?

not a huge fan of the portrayal of jace in that episode or how they are setting his character up moving forward.

in the books he's politically savvy, a decent fighter, and pivotal in the dance of dragons. lasts nights episode just made him look really cringe overall

I think that will be next season. Maybe even the cliffhanger.

I think they might start taking castles in the finale tho. I definitely think we get some good action. It's been an excellent first season without much at all. Gotta give it to the writing staff they've done good along with casting going through all these changes.

doesn't look like it. i thought they would end season 1 with viserys dying so i'm intrigued to see what they decide to do.

seasons 2 and 3 will be non-stop violent war because that's how it is in the book.

He sliced it off because Veamon besmirched his wife's honor calling her a whore. I don't think Daemon is too caught up on all the other "honor" rules that run the castle courts.

Anyone else wondering what happened to Sea Smoke? Just chilling out doing dragon things somewhere? I’m assuming he can’t be claimed since his rider hasn’t passed.

She's always been this way. Her entire premise of Aegon being the true heir because Rhaenarya has bastards is a farce because Rhaenarya is the heir and she is not a bastard. She has always used whatever justification is available to justify her decisions.
