Hokum - Scary Slow Burn Horror

Just got out of seeing Damian McCarthy's new film. If you liked Oddity, his last film, you'll love this too. I think the story here is more fleshed out, but similar to Oddity, it's a slow burn that takes its time building the characters, the world, the atmosphere, and the eventual scares. This film is far scarier than Oddity. McCarthy has a way of pacing the scares in moments that you least expect. Just excellent storytelling, excellent characters, just a really well done and effective horror film. If you don't like slow burn horror, you may not dig this, but if you allow the film to breathe and take root, you'll get a lot out of this recent gem.
Check it out. 4/5 stars.

Going to see on Saturday. Can’t wait. Absolutely loved Oddity and Caveat.

Hadn't heard of this one but it looks worthwhile of my time.

Feels less like a horror film and more like a thriller but it’s still pretty good.

Supernatural mystery thriller

That's kind of all his stuff. They are a suspense driven thriller/mystery. I think he is one of the best at building dread and gravity in scenes right now.

Was thinking this was going to be the protagonist, but was wrong. Need more info on this Jack the rabbit looking Darko thing.
Jerry with the mushroom juice had me cracking up.

Loved the movie. Really really good.
Yea I was expecting that demon bunny to be more present, was kind of bummed it wasn’t, but definitely worth it when it was around.

A lot of misdirection in the film which was so well executed, including the antagonist. My favorite part of the film was Jerry for sure. I’m going to watch it again in theaters. I think it will be better the second time. I don’t want to spoil anything, perhaps we can start another thread for that, but man, I just want to go through the storytelling again. So many little things that come back to haunt!

My baby mama and I love horror movies. She went to see this the other day and said she hasn’t been that scared in a while. I havnt been scared watching a movie since I can’t even remember so maybe this one finally gets me

Allow yourself to be immersed in the world and the characters. Set down your phone and fasten your gaze and I do believe you will be amazed. That’s wonderful to hear about your baby mama’s experience. I echo her sentiment.

Yea one thing I really appreciate about his movies is he doesn’t use a lot of gore and shock value to try and scare. Everything is just rooted in just downright creepy arse situations that get under your skin and does a really good job building that feeling.
