re: Haven’t watched Blair Witch Project (1999) in 20+ years - does it hold up well?

I just had a thought that The Witch(2015) and Blair Witch Project could be in the same universe. Would be a good back to back watch for October. Probably going to do that.

i like the fan theory that it was all an elaborate setup for Josh and Mike to kill Heather.

There was an earlier found footage film that was very, very similar called The Jersey Devil..

Still an excellent movie.

How?

no reason really other than they both take place in the gloomy woods in the northeast, and they both revolve around a creepy satanic witch cult that operates in the forest.

I watched it again 2 nights ago. It holds up as creepy to me.
The woman explaining the BW with the little kid not wanting her to talk was always cool to me.
The people they "interviewed" did seem credible back then. I was 19 in 1999 so watching it in the theatre was kinda scary since we thought it was found footage.
I'd rather watch it on tv than a big screen because it's jumpy.
We had all been camping a ton and got lost/turned around in the woods multiple times, so the movie was scary to me because of that. I couldn't imagine walking all day, after a night like that, and end up in the same place. Yikes.
Heather always and still does aggravate me.
I do think I like BW2 better. It's different but a cool different. I like Jeffrey Donavon and think he should be in more stuff. Hilarious in Burn Notice and scary in Shot Caller.

It was called "The Last Broadcast" and it was fricking terrible. It only cost $900 to make and it showed
And Blair Witch Project is great. Saw it in theaters in '99 and loved it. I've watched it a few times since. Still holds up.

I prefer to re-watch BW2.
When I first saw it I knew nothing about it. My older brother just told me to get dressed one morning so we could go see a movie. He told me the premise and that was it.
Nothing will ever top leaving that theater in 1999 and thinking it was real for about an hour.
