Which one should I go see tonight with the lady friend?

Edit:
I'm not talking a romantic date movie, we want to see a really good movie

Hateful Eight. Both were letdowns, Revenant more so.

Whichever one you pick, make sure your girl brings a sweater.

The Revenant is the superior movie in every way.

Revenant is amazing on the big screen and I thought the movie was a little better, but Hateful Eight is also very good. Can't go wrong with either.

Except dialog, just by default. But agreed.

As to OP - neither is a movie to which I'd bring a date.

the script for revenant could hardly be called mediocre

it was well made in terms of production and acting, but i found myself rolling my eyes quite a bit at some of the plot developments and narrative choices

As a date movie?

Neither.

Go see Creed. I think that is still playing in some theaters.

The Big Short may actually be a pretty good date movie as well.

I enjoyed Hateful Eight more. Tarantino can be a bit too pretentious at times and Hateful Eight isn't his best by any means. However, that says more about the strength of his filmography than the quality of Hateful Eight.

The Revenant was beautiful but not memorable. I didn't leave the theater with the urge to recommend it to anybody.

Could you share some examples?

I actually felt this exact way about Hateful 8. Good acting, great production; unbelievable/goofy plot developments and indulgent narrative.

13 hours for sure. Great movie, funny, and you get to see people getting torn in half by .50 cal machine guns.

Hateful 8 is brutal in a comical but banal way. The Revenant is brutal in a way that becomes comical through how extreme it is.

I enjoyed both. I actually went back to see the Revanant again. It was better in every way but not by a large margin. There is also more of a sentimental value in it if you are bringing a girl.
