Also I don't know if it aged better than Network, but the Swimmer from 1969 is a movie that holds up extremely well both thematically and how it's shot.. it mostly takes place in secluded backyards and does not seem dated at all.

One of my favorite scenes has to be the contract negotiations between the SLA stand in group, the Angela Davis stand in, and the network, at which point AD starts whining that “the (Communist) Party won’t see a dime until syndication” and the big black fried chicken eating SLA leader fires a shot in the air, says that AD should be fronted for distribution, and wants everyone to turn to a specific section of the contract to discuss subsidiary rights.
Hard not to see a parallel with the BLM organization financial behaviors

It turns the mundane (contract negotiations) into comedy gold between an avowed Communist whining about losing money and a guy who was previously shown to be pretty dim being the voice of reason and wanting to talk about technical details of the contract.
it is seemingly just there for laughs too after a pretty heavy scene with max telling his wife about the affair.
then comes full circle with the Betty speach
"What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state -- Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do."

The Ned Beatty role sure seems like Rupert Murdoch these days.

Having a member of the press glamorized into a celebrity further eroded the national media. Especially because the media became more enamored with the idea of their own need to be featured in the story. If Network came out a year later maybe they would have poked fun at All the President's Men
Amen. When reporters started fantasizing that they were avenging angels who were as cool as Redford and Hoffman the process became all about them, their celebrity and advancing their careers. Not enough people recognize the negative impact that this has had on our society.

I have never understood why people draw such a sharp distinction between government and corporations. "Corporation" is loosely translated to be a group of people forming a body to pursue a purpose. That definition seems to fit government ... and the government is every bit as driven by money as any for-profit company.

1984 - we're living it
A Clockwork Orange - the powers at be want to change our nature
Chinatown - same corruption

Also there were reporters, like Carl Bernstein that did not have college degrees. It used to be more of a blue collar profession, now reporters at major outlets have a minimum of a BA if not Masters from elite schools (Columbia, Northwestern, Missouri)

Maybe not for everyone but I think 2001 A Space Odyssey has held up amazingly well.

Just watched the trailer - this looks great! Thanks for posting. Can’t wait to watch it later this week!

I don't think it was necessarily prophetic, just the same shite was going on back then. We're more aware of it due to the internet & social media.
