And all the downvotes already in this thread.

I saw it in Chicago and it was absolutely fantastic (Miguel Cervantes was great as Hamilton). So I'm really excited to see it with the original cast.

I saw it in Chicago too. We had Ariana afsar as Eliza in that production. She was an American Idol top 10 contestant about a decade ago.

That show had some dude with a lisp as Burr which was distracting, but he nailed the higher pitch songs. It's hard to cast that role because there are very few people with the talent of Leslie Odom.

I'm sure most fans know about this, but here is First Burn by all the original touring Elizas. So good. First Burn

I'm pretty sure there is a guy that posts here that went to HS with phillipa Soo, too.

Nice. I had Jin Ha as my Burr and he was great. I just missed out on seeing Wayne Brady as Burr.

I saw Wayne Brady as Burr and Miguel Cervantes as Hamilton. Both were incredible. It was mind-boggling that I could get a flight to Chicago, a ticket, and half of a room for the price of 1 Broadway ticket

I got really lucky. I had already planned a 4-day trip to Chicago (pretty open "agenda" but had certain things I wanted to visit while there like the Art Institute). A couple weeks before they had a big ticket drop. Was about 12 rows from the stage. It was incredible.

Hilariously, I didn't even bother trying to get tickets when they came here to Louisville as the prices were ridiculous.

Quite disappointed it won’t be in theaters. Hoping this isn’t too successful so that Disney doesn’t start a trend of going straight to Disney+ on their biggest movies.

I doubt they are happy about having to release this on D+ before theaters. This was a guaranteed box office hit for them. Sure it was always really acquired to help push people into getting D+ subscriptions but they would have at minimum had the acquisition fee paid off through the box office numbers alone.

The show is 2:45 including an intermission.

It will probably be around 150 minutes.

Watched the first 3 minutes this morning. I loved the Disney castle opening when the fireworks goes across the castle and they have the turntables scratching.

Hey, do you like rap music? How about some really shitty rap music about one of the founding fathers? Hey, do you like history? How about a half-assed incomplete singing history of one of the founding fathers? Do you like stage productions? How about a taped stage production on the little screen?

Sorry to piss in your cheerios but this sounds really terrible.

Your opinion is pointless if you arent going to watch it...

And fwiw, there is very little actual rap in the production.

Most of the show is great - the creativity, the production value, the music, the performances, etc.

The rapping stuff is probably the worst part of the show. Lin Manuel Miranda is like that cringy high school teacher trying to be "hip" and relate to the kids.

"Yo, my name is Hamilton and I'm here to say..."

It's like that teacher from that Microsoft commercial a few years back rapping about remainders.

Sickening that so many would willingly watch a piece of media focused on slave owners.

Per Columbia University -

quote:

Careful research indicates that Hamilton detested the institution of slavery with fervor, but whenever the issue of slavery came into conflict with Hamilton’s central political tenet of property rights, his belief in the promotion of American interests, or his own personal ambition, Hamilton allowed these motivations to override his aversion to slavery.

It’s got really awesome music performed by very talented people. All movies/shows, from Band of Brothers and Chernobyl to Braveheart and Gladiator, have varying degrees of accuracy to how they make their narratives entertaining. There’s nothing half assed about Hamilton, and his story is very well and respectfully told. I can’t imagine watching Hamilton on tv carries the same excitement as seeing it in person, but I guess the trade off is seeing closeups and medium shots of the performers vs. only being able to see them from row 25 or whatever.

I don’t like musicals at all, and almost out of spite/anti PCness/thinking I’d be annoyed by an underlying agenda/narrative/whatever, had zero interest to watch Hamilton. For no other reason than curiosity, I watched it, and have to admit, it’s pretty great.

I bet you’ve watched The Patriot and even though it’s horribly historically inaccurate you enjoyed it.

Except he's an amazing writer, as well as prolific and skilled freestyle rapper. LINK LINK

Honestly, he's probably the weakest performer in the original cast but he's a genius with lyrics.

Just finished watching and thought it was pretty fantastic, but yeah ironically I thought the performances of Hamilton and Burr were the weakest. Eliza, Angelica, Jefferson and King George were the best performances IMO.
