EXCLUSIVE: After watching his live-action transfer of Disney’s animated Aladdin become his first film to crack the billion-dollar gross mark, Guy Ritchie is back in business with the studio. This time, he’s overseeing a live-action film based on the Disney animated film Hercules.
The film will be produced by AGBO, the production company run by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe & Anthony Russo. The studio is in the process of hiring writers after Dave Callaham wrote a first draft.
This deal was made by CAA, before Ritchie last month exited the agency and went to WME.
Ritchie most recently shot an untitled action thriller with Jake Gyllenhaal starring that STX sold to MGM and Amazon. He is coming off Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre, which he wrote, directed and exec produced, with Jason Statham starring for STX. Statham and Ritchie started their rises together with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, followed by Snatch, Revolver and Wrath of Man.
His attorney is Matt Saver.

I can't wait to see Disney show us how diverse ancient Greece was.

It was when the Persians were invading it.

Me neither. When I read the first part, I was picturing Hercules wearing a plaid 3 piece suit tossing chavs around South London.

I’ll watch. I enjoyed his take on King Arthur.

I hate that I even have to ask, but is this sarcasm?

I hope Hercules is queer in this. Alotta queers in Ancient Greece. It makes sense.

Even odds it’s CGI garbage.

I really enjoyed that version.

I thought it was hot garbage, but in his defense, it was supposed to be part of a trilogy. He said he had planned to introduce Merlin, Lancelot, Guinevere, etc. in the sequels, but it was universally panned by critics and tanked at the box office.
I'm curious if the Hercules remake will be a musical. Other than the Muses' songs, I can only recall 2 or 3 other songs in the original animated film. Of course the Muses will be black, which I'm totally cool with, since they were originally modeled after the Pointer Sisters. Will they cast actual Greek actors as Herc and Meg? Will they pollute the story with "the message"? There's no need to toughen up Meg like they did Jasmine, because she was already a strong female lead in the animated version. She wasn't Disney's typical damsel in distress.

This is my favorite Disney movie.
I don't think I like this.

Waiting for the thread where people scream about Hollywood cancelling James Woods and how they'll never watch a movie with Hades played by anyone else.
