I'd say that the first had more mainstream songs than the second.
Yeah no doubt. I was born in 77 so 80's pop is right up my alley but even I have heard songs from the first soundtrack a lot.
GOTG2 had some that sounded very familiar and some that I don't think I've heard before.

Are you making an argument that Brandy by the Looking Glass isn't a mainstream song?
Posted on 5/26/17 at 9:52 am to Cap Crunch
I was a kid in the 70's. Almost all the songs in Vol.1 were standard AM radio songs that were played a lot. I'd say about half of Vol. 2 fall into this category. But this makes sense because anyone who's made awesome mix tapes knows that your first is usually the best. Tapes made after the first contain more filler songs.

Did not like the inclusion of so many mainstream songs though.
What a hipster
*goes to see mainstream movie. Doesn't like the mainstream music*

Soundtrack 2 is good. You have to keep in mind, what we hear now isn't really always the biggest songs of back then, it is just what is syndicated and recycled.
I'd like there to be some more 70's roller skate club music; that would be right up his mom's alley and it is a neglected genre.
Some Cheap Trick, for example... "I want YOU--- to want ME!"
As for the actual movie, yeah, Drax can come across a little strong at times, but that's his gig. I think Mantis solved whatever problems we might have with his characterization, he's just profoundly heartbroken and making the best of things. The more campy he is, the more contrast there is with that moment she reads his feelings and breaks down; maybe the best "bad actor" cure I've seen in a movie in a long time.

Saw it a few hours ago. This wasn't a good movie.

You going to elaborate on that or just stick with no reasoning?
Posted on 5/27/17 at 4:20 am to Cap Crunch
I have reasons, but I'm visiting a friend and don't have my computer with me. All I've got is my phone. I'll post a more detailed review in my OP later on today.

Finally saw this and I think it is on par with the original.
What a beautiful movie to watch on the big screen. Ego's planet, the opening fight and the fireworks for Yondu's funeral were jaw droppjngly beautiful. Top notch!
The Sovereign girl LOL'ing at Taserface was great.

A technical observation here...the Sovereign's use of remote-controlled fighters.
You're going to get lag if you're reliant on light-speed controls (radio etc), even at relatively close distances. Earth to moon is 1.3 seconds, so even at that range it's going to be disastrously poor for dogfighting etc.
But for "up close", it seems like that would be the wave of the future... or maybe not? Up close, you would probably have your entire group of pilots in one compound (or mothership), and run the risk of losing the entire squadron on one big hit. Manned fighters would have more risk of some casualties, but not nearly the risk of losing the whole group.

Okay...my big problems with the movie:
The humor was really forced, most of the jokes in the film fell flat with me. I really had a problem with the characterization of Drax. In the first film his character had a purpose and something of an arc. In this film the only things he was good at doing were fake laughing really loudly, insulting someone, and delivering lame punchlines.
There was no plot until the last half of the movie. The main antagonist wasn't revealed until the third act and when the villain was finally revealed, the motivations for said villain were incredibly lame and made no sense whatsoever.

Ansible:
An ansible is a category of fictional device or technology capable of instantaneous or superluminal (faster than light) communication. It can send and receive messages to and from a corresponding device over any distance or obstacle whatsoever with no delay. The term ansible is broadly shared across works of several science fiction authors, settings and continuities.

BTW, they'll be a lag before we get the second sequel. They're going to flesh out Infinity Wars I and II before getting the plot/script set on GotG III.
