I'm pretty partial toward Bergman, so Wild Strawberries and The Seventh Seal (see avatar) are up there for me.

Have you seen "Winter Light" and "Cries and Whispers" by Bergman? Those are my two favorite by him.

Lonesome Dove is the badassedest cinematic creation in the history of the planet Earth. Possibily the entire solar system.

+2. While it might technically be classified as a mini series instead of a movie, this is my favorite. Robert Duval and Tommy Lee Jones were great in it and the supporting cast were all excellent.

If the tendency for a population to quote a movie is any criteria, then there is only one number one. All others are number two, or lower.

Good call. If that movie is on I cant force myself to turn it off. One of my faveorite lines from the movie:

Al Czervik: You're a lot of woman, you know that? Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

Actually, it's not chick-flick at all. It's a movie with every single song in it being the Beatles. I hate musicals with a burning passion, but when it's the Beatles, it's AMAZING.

Based during Vietnam. The people in the movie are young (late teens, early 20s) so it shows a lot of what the youth was doing during the war. Lots of hippies and riots and drugs with Beatles music going along.

In the end, it's a love story, but so are a lot of action movies. I would recommend it to anyone.

I can't believe you listed Across the Universe in a thread entitled "greatest movie of all time". Wow. What a dumb bitch!
