It was Gary Oldman until he won an Oscar in 2018.

George Lindsey is also famous at my wife’s high school. He taught there before he became an actor.

This turned into a George Lindsey appreciation thread.

Lindsey also played QB at Florence State (now U. of N. Alabama) on scholarship.

And basketball at Florence STate too, I just learned:

Peter O’Toole got a lifetime achievement award, but other than that he never got an Oscar. I think he’s the greatest actor who ever lived, so he’d be my choice.

To my dying day, I will believe that Peter O'Toole deserved to be nominated for, and win, the 2007 Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Ratatouille (bump Javier Bardem to Lead Actor if you must).

Anton Ego's monologue on art and criticism at the end of Ratatouille is one of the most richly developed moments in all of Pixar and owes nearly all of its credibility to his performance. No lesser actor could have pulled that off.

I would say this is the correct answer. I'm puzzled that some people are saying Peter O'Toole. Yeah, he never won an Oscar but he won three Golden Globe awards and a primetime Emmy and a BAFTA. He had a very decorated career except for winning the big one.

Bob Odenkirk. He’s been nominated a lot but I’m not sure he’s ever won. And it’s a crime he has yet to win for Better Call Saul.

If we're just talking about Oscars it's Tom Cruise, although I think he did win a Golden Globe for Magnolia. I was really hoping to see him embrace older age and do something really gritty and dramatic but I guess he's just gonna be a stunt man the rest of his career to prove he's not getting old

Sam Elliott has never won anything. He's only been nominated for an oscar once... 2 years ago for A Star Is Born. Which he absolutely should have won.

He has a couple of golden globe nods and maybe an Emmy nom, but he's never won anything. That's pretty incredible.

Tom Cruise is probably the real big one though.

He's only been nominated 2 or 3 times and probably hasn't been close to ever winning. He should have beaten Hoffman for Rain Man. It's his best perfomance and that movie don't work without him. His part was also much much more difficult.

I make note to watch LOA at least once a year, particularly since getting a big screen TV and 13-speaker sound system. O’Toole is mesmerizing. Great supporting cast as well.

I enjoy watching Lawrence of Arabia on a regular TV:

I personally loved John Candy. I know he won a few Emmy's in the early 80s, but very underated actor.
