Thanks but I'm going to pass on the link, read the first 3 books, and I have a feeling that Ned isn't his father.

Good response in the spirit of this thread.
Provided a way for the question to be answered without giving away too much information.

Who is Jon's real mother? Just kidding, don't answer that.
People like to be cautious b/c of GRRM's unpredictability, but I cannot fathom how Jon's mother is NOT *you know who*. Especially when the show's creators admitted that their guess on her identity was correct according to discussions with GRRM.

Holy crap, I'm not a book reader and there was a lot of butthurtness going on in the non-reader thread. Like people getting in a hissyfit as to why Hodor only says 'Hodor'
.
FWIW I know a lot of the main book spoilers and I plan on reading the books in the near future

Welcome to the thread. If you have a question ask and I hope whomever responds will do so with minimal spoilers, addressing the question only and nothing beyond.

Who is Howland Reed and how did he save Ned's life in the war?
Posted on 4/8/13 at 10:42 pm to Hugo Stiglitz
Howland was one of Lord Eddard Stark's companions during Robert's Rebellion, and he was the only other survivor of the encounter with the Kingsguard at the Tower of Joy. (AGOT 40) While the circumstances are not entirely known, Howland apparently saved Eddard's life during his fight with Arthur Dayne. (ACOK 22)

So is Howland the only person alive who would know about Jon's true parentage then??
Posted on 4/8/13 at 10:51 pm to ladytiger118
he was with Ned throughout that time frame so that is a good assumption
Posted on 4/8/13 at 11:25 pm to ladytiger118
yeah, but there is always the chance that some magic whether it be Stannis' red woman or Bran's warg abilities could reveal something. Who knows. It's all speculation
Posted on 4/9/13 at 2:23 pm to saintsfan92612
That's true. So does GRRM plan to reveal his parentage in the last 2 books?
Posted on 4/9/13 at 2:28 pm to ladytiger118
He needs to do it in the next book IMO.
Everyone knows it's coming.

Well, as the books aren't finished and some of the questions being asked in the show thread are still questions in the book, then why can't we speculate about things we in fact DO NOT KNOW?
You're speculating from a different point in time with more information....your comments will always appear to provide additional clues not yet revealed whether true or not.

cwill, you will not be seeing any speculation about anything from me in the nonreaders thread, hell I barely speculate in the readers thread and am almost too intimidated by the level of knowledge in the crackpot thread. This thread is not for speculation either, just a place to ask and answer questions.

I can't remember which of the Stark's girls he was talking with, but one of the men from Dorne said he knew of Jon's mother.
