Jon is a legitimate child of the rightful heir to the throne. That means he has more of a claim to the Iron Throne based on him being a male and direct line to the the prince, rather then the sister of the prince who wouldn't surpass him. Though I think it wont matter because Danny and Jon are going to bang and become King and Queen

Where does that leave Gendry? If Robert's Rebellion gave the Baratheon name legitimate claim to the Iron Throne, then Gendry's claim, even as a bastard, would supersede Cersie's supposed claim, would it not? Now if Dany overthrows Cersie claiming the Iron Throne, then would that mean Jon's claim becomes more true than Gendry's as it currently stands?

I agree, I thought he was looking for something incriminating on his part. Definitely smart plant to try to plant the seeds of deception since Arya doesn't know the context of that letter
