I guess it's been too long since I've read the books. I was always under the impression that Tyrion loved Jamie. Sure, he was envious of his position in the family, but I could've sworn that he regretted what he told Jamie about Cersei.

Maybe another case of me mis-remembering, but I don't think they ever stated why exactly Mance didn't use his entire force.
I know that his whole plan in both the books and the show hinged on sending a small group of wildlings over the wall to infiltrate Castle Black and open the gates in the tunnel. Mance knew that they were never going to get through the wall by battle, and he didn't have the horn to bring the wall down, so there was no point to sacrificing everyone. He just needed to create a large enough diversion to give the wildlings that had already scaled the wall a chance to sneak in and kill the guards that were defending the wall. His plan probably would've worked had Jon not betrayed him.

Varys does have really odd timing when it comes to Dany. He shows up in Mereen right after she rides Drogon away and leaves right before she comes back.
