Agree. I thought the east/west and shadow crap was done in the Dothraki story line.

This. Plus there isn't enough time for her to go through Asshai. She needs to be back in Westeros as the White Walkers breach the Wall. Expecting her to land on DragonStone if for nothing else historical value as well as it not really being all that occupied. Also was her birthplace so it makes sense that her return to "her" kingdom starts there.

Ice spiders and wight bears and other badass things.
I also have a theory that what brings the fog and cold is not the white walkers themselves but a dragon turned wight Ice-dragon the WWs killed a long time ago.

I think Martin even said that we won't see Asshai in the books, except maybe in flashbacks.
Another reason this wouldn't make sense is right after Quath gives her the riddle, Dany scrunches up her dumb face and says "Asshai?". It wouldn't make sense to give her a riddle like that where she immediately guesses the answer.

I could see Hodor making it to NOLA.

Asshai is where Melisandre is from, correct?
Posted on 6/24/16 at 11:38 am to OMLandshark
Why? All the red priests are from Asshai, they've raised the question "What's west of Westeros?", new ASOIAF maps show Asshai as well as Yi Ti. There would be no reason to add these areas if they were not going to play some roll, and with 14 episodes left, they could easily get Dany to defeat Yunkai absolutely and sail to Asshai and Westeros in 7 or 8 episodes.
It doesn't make sense to keep building up and referencing this place if it is not going to be important.

Sorry Bob, I listed two pretty solid reasons why Asshai/circumnavigation ain't happening. At least not in the books, who knows what whackadoo shite they'll pull on HBO though.

But Vaes Dothrak isn't really east of Meereen, it's north.
The only other shadow that I can think of would be that cast by the Titan of Braavos. Also, I don't trust anything GRR Martin says about what will or won't be in his books or when they will be released.
Also, landing at Lannisport and taking Casterly Rock via the sewers Tyrion used to run would be great poetic justice and would tie together Dany's conquest of Mereen.

Perhaps it is a metaphor - she will have to embrace R'hllor and his servants and this is "going east"?
Just wildly speculating, as usual.

Fair enough. I think you might be taking the geographic stuff a little too literally but you've gotta point with trusting the author. Follow your dreams, I won't shite on them any further.

Well, I mean all the other stuff was pretty simple:
A white horse: the pale mare plague
A corpse at the prow of a ship: Euron
The perfumed seneschal: the boat "the stinky steward"

What if the shadow is as simple as the shadow of Drogon at the pit? I've seen that as speculation, but I haven't been thinking much about that being the shadow. Maybe, that is the turning point? Seems to be for the show so far.

Two different warnings. The first was very cryptic (the one we're discussing), and just about life philosophy and what direction Dany would go. The second was a very direct warning that was meant to create distrust between Dany and those people, so ambiguity wouldn't serve a purpose.
Quath is obviously trying to direct Dany on a certain path, and that path isn't a Magellan voyage through Asshai.
In my humble opinion....

Well, for practical reasons, why would Dany sail to Asshai? No one knows how long it would take to reach Westeros from that route, but it is certainly longer than the typical route from Slavers Bay to Westeros.
But I don't think Asshai is any more interesting than the characters that come from it. It's dark, they do magic, and probably have Asian like buildings they use to burn people alive in. What more are we going to get from Asshai than from Melisandre? Asshai is best being a mysterious city we never see in the story. I just think it will be disappointing when we see it.

Well, if you want to talk about a place that keeps on being built up that we haven't seen (save for perhaps through Euron), it's Valyria. They've built that place up much more than Asshai. Everyone is terrified of the place and there's some real shite going on there.
It also makes logical sense for Dany to go there. All the cities in Essos are pissed and gathering a resistance against her. What if she knows they're coming for her with a much larger navy than she has, but she knows they'll sail around Valyria, and that her only option is to sail through it in order to have any chance at survival?
Plus thematically Valyria is Dany's ancestral homeland, and the Lannister Great Sword Brightroar is there and Tyrion's favorite uncle vanished in Valyria. I'd much rather we find out what happened in Valyria than to just go to a place where tons of people have visited and know about it. From the way it is described in the books, Valyria makes Mordor look like a Napa Valley and I really hope we see it in WoW.
