Yeah - back on track. Let's see how many beneficial things we can come up with that Sam actually did.
I can think of:
- discovered the use of dragonglass (obsidian) in killing the Others.
- got Jon elected as commander.
- I seem to remember him reading stuff in books from long ago and maybe pointing them out to Jon or someone. But I can't for the life of me remember what it was about.

The one thing I specifically remember is that he found a book the Maestar Aemon requested. It was the book about the backstory of Nissa Nissa and Azor Ahai I think to be given to Jon. Maybe.
-He also saved Mance Rayder's child. It remains to be seen how important that will end up being, or where exactly the baby and Gilly will wind up.
