He asked to join, but his father refused. House Tarley "does not serve" is what his father told him before he made him take the black.

I have no intention of changing the name of the thread. I named it "Middle Ground" and it will stay "Middle Ground".

Sam's father was going to kill him before he joined the Nights Watch.
They aren't Warriors. They are called Rangers. And you don't get to pick which path they choose for you. That's why Jon Snow was so pissed that they chose him to be a steward.

To answer your second question, Dany and Viserys went from home to home throughout the world before they met up with Illyrio. They would stay somewhere a while until whoever they were staying with grew tired or paranoid of them

Question: is the Middle Ground thread for Hodors and Book Reading Bastards alike?
Posted on 4/6/14 at 3:32 pm to ladytiger118
Yes, book talk is allowed but only up to the point the show has covered. IIRC

Yes. Pierre Audubon is welcomed in the thread.
Posted on 4/6/14 at 3:36 pm to ladytiger118
Yes, but they aren't allowed to talk about anything that happens after the current point in the show.
But really, this thread is just a minefield of spoilers, even ones that aren't intended. I'm told that Theon's story has already gone partially into book 5, and other parts are changed or out of order as well. It's just a spoiler powder keg waiting to explode.

Yes. All are welcome here, but no discussion of anything in the books beyond where the show is.
Breakdown of the three threads:
Hodor thread: no book readers and no discussion of books at all, even background info.
Reader thread: full and open discussion of all book things past, present , and future.
Middle Ground thread: background book discussion allowed but no spoilers about upcoming book events. Best place for Hodors to ask Readers questions if they want more background info on something.

And you're the main one that tries to light the fuse.

I'm just waiting for the alters to show up in the hodor thread. It happens every season. I stopped reading the thread during the show for that reason.
That said, if/when something super fricked up happens, I'll probably peek in and see the reactions.
Hope the admins are ready to rock and roll.

I won't be in there to even monitor things. I'll read it in the next few days to get some laughs though.

is it really this bad? I probably won't post while watching, but if there will be alters in there spoiling shite, then I won't even read it afterwards.

I thought all of the people with Joer were warriors. Couldn't Sam have become one of the maesters or engineers? He said something about his father forcing him to join. Is that the equivalent of being sent to the front lines?
The Night's Watch already has a maester in Aemon. In order to become a maester you have to have years of training outside of the Wall.
It makes a lot of sense to have a guy as smart as Sam working with Aemon. And to not waste him elsewhere.

If some asshat is going to do something to mess with nonreaders, that is usually where they go as that is where the most sensitive nonreaders are.

No kidding.
This thread went really well last season for those who had questions. No reason to think it won't work again. Unless someone is intentionally trying to frick things up for everyone.

I only hear about the alter spoilers, so I don't know how common it is, but it does happen. I think these threads were policed pretty hard last season. I got banned just for threatening spoilers.
