How far into book 4 did they go this season? I'm going to finish book 3 and I'm thinking about starting book 4 to learn more about the children.

I don't think they have done much into book 4, except that Pod and Brienne are traveling together looking for the Stark girls.
Now they have done some of book 5

the guy is HORRIBLE with timing. hes taken 5 and 6 year gaps in between books. i know the books are 1,000+ pages, but people dont take 6 years to do that.
it seems he had a good 2 year pace at first. did he hit a wall himself? is he now struggling to figure out exactly how the frick hes going to do this? im guessing book 6 will hit the shelves in 2016.
i mean, is it all but confirmed that the show has to pass the books up? if book 7 will be another 5 or so year, the show will easily finish first.
