A little background book info from before the time of the show: Dark Sister is the name of a Valyrian sword owned by the Targaryans which was last in the possession of Brynden Rivers, aka Bloodraven, aka the Three Eyed Raven whom Bran was last with north of the Wall.
I thought their families sword was lost when a prince tried to travel to Valaryia?

The Targaryans, being from Valyria, had more than one sword made from Valyrian steel.

I thought that was their last one tho

Brienne has half of Ice, which is the ancestral sword of the Starks
And she is in or near winterfell
I could see Rickon ending up with either Oathkeeper if Brienne ends up getting killed, or maybe even Longclaw (if Jon were to get another sword, say one with a little more "light" to it).

Someone posted a list of all the Valyrian blades in Westeros in the Readers thread if you want to see it. I think it was on page 10.

The Targaryans had two Valyrian steel swords that I can recall. They had Dark Sister that Bryden Rivers had, and Blackfyre whose whereabouts are unknown at this time.
Here is a wiki page that lists all of the known Valyrian steel blades: LINK
ETA: Be since spoilers are only a click away on that page.

Can any maesters fill me in on whether or not you knew already that Valyrian steel would kill the others?
Posted on 5/31/15 at 11:05 pm to UMRealist
It was an unconfirmed but pretty much known thing
Posted on 5/31/15 at 11:07 pm to wildtigercat93
Ohh yeah didn't Sam read about it or something but it was called something different?
Posted on 5/31/15 at 11:07 pm to wildtigercat93
Yeah, it was kind of hinted at in the books, but definitely not confirmed.

If GoT results in an erection lasting more than 4 hours, consult your maester.

Yeah, it was called dragonsteel in the book that Sam read. Sam and Jon speculated that it could be talking about Valyrian steel.

I liked tonight's episode because winter finally came, but as a guy who is not big on action, I'm looking forward to more politics.
