When he arrived Aerys roasted him in his armor and hung Brandon at the same time.
This is true, but a few other minor details I'd like to add.
Rickard asked for a trial by combat and Aerys chose his champion to be fire instead of an actual person. Brandon watched from a contraption that would constrict around his neck if he tried to squirm or wrestle free.
In an attempt to save his father's life he hung himself.

Yea I didn't feel like typing all of that out

I'd argue that Aerys was slightly mad

Well, there's a lot that contributed to his insanity.
Tywin Lannister as hand of the King probably didn't help that much with his paranoia.
Aery's was also kidnapped for six months, Barriston Selmy finally went in and saved his arse.
After that, he only left the castle one time over the next five years

Good discussion guys. Great job of keeping it limited to current or past events from the books/show.
eta:
I need to corner the market on testing for this. I already do testing for Alzheimer's, shouldn't be that hard to adjust the tests to a Westerosi format.

From the throne or from Ned Stark?

Can't remember, could have been both.
Ned had some jurisdiction over the North which would have included bear island, he would have either dispensed justice himself or requested King Robert to do the deed.
Not sure on the protocol but it makes little difference.

Well Ned was the warden in the north so both.

Ned would've done it. Same way he killed the ranger in the opening chapter/scene

Not trying to nitpick the point, but it brings me up an interesting point. I took it as Robert not giving a shite, and Ned doing what he was supposed to do, his honor. Robert then seized the opportunity to his advantage. He got Jorah worked as his informant/spy.
Now Barristan, as head of the King's guard, knew that Jorah was spying on Daenerys for the throne.(which was also revealed in season 1 of the show) In the book Jorah didn't recognize Barristan, so his identity wasn't known until the end. Do you think the show is just skipping over that issue?

I thought this was more Varys and not so much Robert

I think it will emerge later down the line but who knows.
In the show, the chick with the mask in Qarth asked Jorah if he would betray Dany again to which he replied, "Never"
The betrayal was him spying on Dany to Varys and his last known report in the book was from Qarth.
