quote:

There’s no truth to the rumors that Kathleen Kennedy is being replaced as the head of Lucasfilm, Disney CEO Bob Chapek assured shareholders on an investor’s call on Tuesday. Chapek was asked rather bluntly if Kennedy was being replaced by Dave Filoni or Jon Favreau – both of whom have been building out the Disney+ Star Wars realm with shows like The Mandalorian and the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett. Taken aback, Chapek responded:

quote:

“We’ve been absolutely thrilled that we can have the kind of talent like Kathy Kennedy to direct Lucasfilm… We look forward to having Kathleen Kennedy running the Lucasfilm organization for many years to come.”

Rumors have been swirling about Kennedy being replaced for years, but it has largely just been some wishful thinking on the part of disgruntled fans. George Lucas chose Kennedy as his successor when he sold Lucasfilm to Disney, and she oversaw the expansion of the Star Wars universe with new Skywalker Saga films, spinoffs, and TV shows. Things got off to a pretty great start with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the first spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a huge box office success, but the Force Awakens sequel Star Wars: The Last Jedi rubbed some fans the wrong way (despite the fact that it’s a brilliant film).

OK, I’m done reading this garbage of an article. How about Cosmic Book News

quote:

Fans have wanted Kennedy removed from Star Wars since the release of The Last Jedi, but especially after the recent firing of Gina Carano.

Chapek responded to a shareholder who accused Hollywood and the company of a double standard in firing Gina Carano from The Mandalorian because she’s a conservative by basically avoiding the question and responding that he doesn’t “really see Disney as characterizing itself as left-leaning or right-leaning.”

The stockholder also noted that The Mandalorian co-stars Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano both controversially referenced Nazi Germany in social media comments but only Carano was removed. “What about the Disney blacklist?” questioned the stockholder.

Chapek didn’t comment or reply about the Carano incident directly but said Disney stands “for values that are universal: respect, decency, integrity and inclusion and we seek to have the content that we make reflective of the rich diversity of the world we live in. And I think that’s a world we should all live in harmony and peace.”

What a fricking coward. Yeah, decency when you call everyone who didn’t like your film a sexist white supremacist. That sounds like decency to me. You sure did respect Gina Carano when she had a different opinion than you. Harmony and peace to you is something resembling lebensraum.

Sorry, Star Wars is the most overrated property of all time with only one masterful movie, 2 good ones, 4 ok ones, and the rest being garbage. The Mandalorian was the right direction to take the universe, but Kathleen Kennedy can’t let Jon Favreau outshine her.

Does Disney have a policy where they absolutely cannot listen to the fan base and satisfy their demands because they would admit they were wrong?

Kind of like the United States refuses to negotiate with terrorists kind of thing?

Why does Disney have no problem pissing off its fan base?

That can’t be true. I was assured by a bunch of clickbait articles and armchair speculators with no inside knowledge of Lucasfilm that Kathleen Kennedy was on the way out.

It has TWO great films. I know most people are big on proclaiming Empire as the best of the series but most of the time I actually prefer the original 1977 Star Wars to Empire.

Do you think the average Star Wars property consumer knows who Kathleen Kennedy is? If you do, you really don't understand what 13-to-20 year-old boys care about.

You know what? Screw it. Return of the Jedi is great too. The Ewoks are a fine Viet Cong/Guerrilla warfare metaphor.

We received a nice 3 part saga that was wrapped up nicely. All we had to do was be content with the expanded universe novels, toys, and video games...but no, we needed more ‘SPLOSIONS on the big screen, and like a junkie in need of a fix, we kept promising we’d clean up our act but we relapsed into another terrible trilogy.

To be honest, I didn’t really fall for it. If Kennedy was going to be fired, it likely would have been after Solo and at the latest with Rise of Skywalker. If you were told in 2016 that the final film in the Avengers franchise (Infinity Saga) would gross nearly three times the amount as the final film of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, you’d think they were crazy. I’m sure Favreau is fighting her, but she’s going to win.

She is an extremely petty and vicious creature and gets pissed off if you tell her the best thing she did with her career was fetch Spielberg’s coffee. She is so fricking lucky she got to be his coffee fetcher.

I really enjoy the first trilogy. It's hard to get through the rest. Episodes 3 and 7 are also good, but tied to bad trilogies.

This being brought up in a shareholders meeting is pretty surprising to me. What Chapek is quoted here as saying aren't real answers, just canned responses with nothing specific whatsoever.

I’m sure there are some shareholders with some actual dignity and want Kennedy fired. Just looking at the gross from TFA to TLJ to TROS. TROS should have at worst grossed 1.7 billion dollars. The shareholders are rightly pissed she’s not fired.

It really is hard to imagine Disney viewing TLJ and TROS box office numbers as a "success."
