Coast to Coast was the best when Art Bell was the host.
Anyone would call with the most outlandish story, and Art would just go along with it and treat it as if it were real.
"Art, I battled interdimensional demons in my bedroom last night."
"Wait, you battled demons? How did you know they were interdimensional? What did they look like?"
100% from Mel’s hole to Area 51 caller, Antichrist hotline, Shadow people. Peak Coast to Coast. Art was a treasure

Use to look forward to Art's Ghost to Ghost specials around Halloween.
Random people calling in from all over telling the wildest stories you ever heard.
The closest person to Art Bell nowadays is Rogan.
In fact, Art interviewed Rogan on C2C and it's available on youtube.
Would be wild if Rogan got bored in a few years and decided to do a call in show reminiscent of Art.
Art would have these regulars that would go on the show ie Dr. Malakai Martin, Richard C Hoagland and some other crazy motherfrickers similar to the crew Rogan has on from time to time.

Rogan has Art Bell level guests on all the time.
Some of Rogan's regular guests would never see the light of day.

Seems like it could be somewhat of a companion to American Splendor, which Giamatti was great in playing another outsider in Harvey Pekar.

Exactly.
I would just think "C'mon Art just show a little bit of skepticism to at least SOME of these callers."But that was his schtick and made his show.

Mel’s hole and the guy that called in live flying over Area 51 were awesome! Still like going on YouTube every once in awhile and listening to his shows

I fall asleep listening to old Coast to Coast, Midnight in the Desert, and Dreamland episodes. Here are a couple of channels on YouTube for anyone interested

Art would let the guest tell his story, and let the callers ask the questions.

Yep. It wasn't the point of the show to argue with people. Art would wisely let people say what they had to say and let the listener make any argument to be had in their own mind. The appeal of the show.

A friend of mine from a long time ago is a dead ringer for Art. He was just like Art in every way. Lost contact with him unfortunately. :(

f you were alone on watch in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, somehow this show made you feel less alone.
Made that drive on I-10 between Tallahassee and Pensacola a tad bit more bearable.
