I deleted the offending post. But I decided to keep the posts calling him an a-hole. Because that was an incredibly dick move.

And I'm one of the more laid back people about spoilers. There was no call for that.

ETA: Please, let's now continue speculating that G.R.R. Martin is going to die of a heart attack in the next year, leaving us all absolutely screwed.

To an extent yes. I could've just read the plot summary.

I don't think we'd be totally screwed. He's left the show handlers with all the plot details

I'm waiting for the pressure to get to him as the show closes the gap. He snaps and OD's on dreamwine. Then the cable model falls apart and HBO is left holding it's dick because they refused to get aboard the on-line streaming train. Thus the final book will be a graphic novel put out by the publisher to get every last drop of money before shutting it down.

Hopefully he has enough notes on how he wants it to end that someone can pick it up a la The Wheel Of Time.

Sooner or later they'll have to either offer HBOGO as a standalone subscription service or join up with Netflix or Amazon. But their library is just too strong for any serious long term troubles.

That's true, my anger was probably misplaced.

It's my understanding from all that I've read that the producers of the show know how it's supposed to all wrap up. I know at the very least that I read an interview with Alfie Allen where he admitted he definitely knows the details of a particular character's lineage that's been in question in the books. So it'll probably be those guys who end up wrapping it up.

Do you think Benioff and/or Weiss would finish the book series if Martin were to die prematurely? I've never read Weiss' stuff, and I love Benioff's novels, but I don't know how they would be able to capture the style of Martin. Benioff's books tend to be far more conversational in tone.

When Robert Jordan died and Brandon Sanderson picked it up, GRRM talked about it and said UNEQUIVOCALLY that he would never, EVER let anyone finish the series but him. He even said he had it in a will, etc.

However, that was before the HBO show was even a gleam in his eye, and when he was on like year 3 of writing DWD, not year 6. So I'm sure he's softened his stance and had to agree to give B&W some info so that they could make sure they didn't cut anything too important out of the show.

But I am 100% convinced that he won't make it. He's fat, old, and he travels A LOT.

The guy just needs to buckle down and focus on SOIAF. I'm not saying don't enjoy your life and travel, but the sheer amount of other projects he does is just ridiculous. You're famous for one thing...this series. Work on it and get it done man.

Then pursue whatever the frick you want. (can you tell I've been reading this series since 99? I'm a little bitter)

Y'all sound like TWD comic fans on Roamers and Lurkers. Every issue discussion is "how is Kirkman going to troll is this time?"

I continue to have hope that he'll wrap it up in 2 more books relatively soon.

Books 4 and 5 took so long because of the whole split timeline thing and I also thought he scrapped his original idea of progressing 5 years ahead during his writing. So I chose to believe that books 1,2, and 3 were the norms, and also the TV show will push him to finish a little faster. And hopefully the Giants will start sucking so he won't waste more time on them.

At least I convinced myself of that so I won't lose hope.

I'm with you, Belle. I've stated numerous times how his plots continued to diverge even through the last book. While I don't expect a neat, tidy package encompassing all of the characters and subplots, to end up with one that's even Close appears to be millions of pages away. We have seen absolutely ZERO signs of convergence to date.

Makes me wonder if this saga truly ever has an ending, in the traditional sense.

How is it possible to create a universe...and then double back and give it boundaries?
