I put this link to the names of the characters and the descriptions/names in the middle ground thread, but figured it might belong here as well. Looks like some of the same info as quoted above but maybe in a form easier to read:

Wonder if they do the flashback if they'll recast sean bean or cast someone younger
Would love Sean Bean but he would be a dead give away for Jon and ToJ and given how secretive they are tryin to be it seems unlikely

I mean, TOJ is what, 15 years or so before the current events of the show? Making him younger makes sense and might fit under "lord of a northern house" casting call.
If the writers weren't trying to hard to cover stuff that can't be covered I would agree that you have to have bean. The hodors need bean. The comotose Khal Drogos need previews to remember who bean was

I don't think either of the two Northern casting calls fits Ned.
The Lord of Noble Northern House casting is looking for a person from 25-50 years old. He is described as a "massive bear, and a temper to match". I think this one is going to be either a recasting of Greatjon, or his son Smalljon.
Lord of Northern Stronghold casting is looking for a person from late 30s to 40s and is ruthless and calculating (and is a "frightening" lord). That doesn't sound like Ned either. I'm guessing it is either a Dustin or a Ryswell.

Bean would need to look 20 years younger.
They aren't doing that. They will cast a young look alike if they do TOJ, and they will have a "previously on..." to remind Hodors of who the hell he is, and then refer to him often in the first scene.

I'm not saying that they won't cast a young guy to play Ned, I'm just saying that the Northern casting descriptions don't fit for Ned.
