I mean it’s just not as good anymore. This scorpions are everywhere now. They barely got the first one built. They hid a whole damn fleet behind a rock. I’m going to finish watching but I can admit it’s just not what it once was.

That episode wasn’t terrible tv. But for the actual story arch and plot it was pretty fricking bad.
Why wouldn’t Cersei have ordered them to fire the arrows at the incredibly vulnerable dragon sitting idk...200 yards away from them at the most?? Then just send out the Golden company and have them mop up the vastly overrated unsullied?

Structurally, the ending of 8x01 sets up the story for its climax, the fight against the night king. And in any story, you want tension to increase as you approach the peak. That's how stories work.
8x02?
It completely undermines any sense of worry or urgency generated in 8x01.
You have Tormund arrive and declare that the dead are coming, and the defenders have little time to prepare. This is good, and this is where you double down on the fear and worry. This is where you crank the tension all the way up, with soldiers rushing off to prepare for battle, clanging bells, ravens flying. God knows what else. Above all else, you want your audience to feel fear.
What they do instead is have that long warm and fuzzy fireside chat, Arya gets laid, and other things happen. It's mostly up beat, happy, and it's all very slow paced.
So instead of getting the audience's blood moving, we put them to sleep and tell them, don't worry, be happy.

I saw the preview on HBO now .. You could hear a dragon in the background at the end and they all looked surprised. Who knows.

Last week was the worst episode and this was at least better.
