The thread about death predictions got me thinking...

What happened to all the Wildlings who are following Tormund? Are they still there or were they all turned by the knight king?

I think a lot of them were manning the wall when the dead broke through. I assume there are still some around but most died between the attack(s) on the wall, Hardhome, and the BotB.

they’ve done an excellent job of depopulating the continent in the last few years while providing widespread job opportunities in the enemy’s employ

the bulk of both the living armies had to be imported from overseas

it appears that both the wildings and the nights watch are essentially extinct, and along with the recent kills in the north they form most of the army of the dead

I didnt read the books so I don't have an idea of army sizes, but if this is true then how can anyone match up against them?

Quick question - when is a genius going to finally step up and give Jamie a prosthetic hand that has a dragon glass sword attached to it?

I’m mean - it’s a fairly obvious solution.

The dude has learned to fight with his weak hand so giving him a sword back in his dominant hand too would make him the second best fighter behind Arya.

I always wondered why they didn't figure out a way to attach a sword to his forearm somehow.

they cant
they showed you this in the episode, in the scene with the battlefield map

the numbers themselves are so overwhelming that even if the army of the dead weren't...dead, there is no chance for battlefield victory here. the NK has giants, a dragon, and a 10X the troops.

there will not be a happy ending to the situation at winterfell, and the resolution to this conflict wont be with a sword

Only chance is to kill the WW's

each controls a group of dead infantry

Use one dragon to chase off/distract Viserion
Attempt a fast low pass with a dragon to kill as many WW's as possible.

You cannot allow Viserion to hit Winterfell's walls

Can Bran warg into his ravens and use them to slow the WW's. Imagine a swarm of ravens trying to gouge out the eyes of Ww's

clearly their only battlefield tactic that has any chance of success

which is why it won't happen

You also have to create ways to bottleneck the invaders. The dragon glass barricades might do the trick for a short time

Rewatched the episode yesterday, and I don’t see why people were flipping out. I thought it felt like an earlier season episode personally and was certainly better than the episode that preceded it. There were really smart and well written moments in it. We’re getting 82 minute battle next episode, so just hold your horses if you got pissed off that we didn’t get a battle.

I get being frustrated that there are only 6 episodes and we still haven't had any action, but I think once we do get it, the set up/goodbyes to characters we've been watching for 10 years will be much more appreciated.

I've really enjoyed both episodes so far, but partly because I'm fully prepared to be blown away, and for a lot of deaths next episode.
