That's a bit of a stretch. I could see the average peasant accepting this but in a world filled with Little Fingers and Martells, it seems like someone would find it a bit fishy and try to get to the bottom of it. Or maybe there's an explanation given that I can't remember.

Jon not looking very Targaryen is certainly a god send.
Dem Stark genes are strong. Helped to maintain the illusion he was Ned's child.

Let's hope they don't makeout like Luke and Leia
.

Yeah it isn't a great explanation. I would think Ned (known for his immense honor) goes to Dorne to fight 3 Kingsguard around his sister who was shacked up Rhaegar and he magically comes back with a newborn would raise more eyebrows.
Still he is Robert's best friend. Robert is acting all butthurt about Lyanna. Ned is essentially a non-factor in court politics for like 15 years. Maybe no one really wanted to pursue it.

I've been thinking that the Meera/Jon theory is dumb, but the more I think about it the more I like it.
Separating twins at birth to protect them is a classic story line. Though normally it's one goes to an orphanage and the other the other gets riches.

If Rhaegar had another legit male heir, he would be King before Viserys.

The theory really has merit though I would think Howland Reed showing up with a kid too would be remarked upon. Then again he is pretty lowkey.

Rhaegar dies first but I can't remember how the inheritance works in the Fret situation. I'm not sure if the Firstborn's firstborn inherits or if it goes to the second born.

What is Howland Reed's motivation to protect the twins? I'm blanking out on his relation to the Starks/Targaryans to which he would take on such a burden to protect Meera. Is house Reed just that embedded with house Stark or is there a blood relation?
Posted on 5/2/16 at 2:39 pm to Linkovich
No blood relation AFAIK. Howland and Ned were really close friends though.

The Starks took him in at Harrenhall and Lyanna kicked some squires asses to defend him. They got close then and he's a Stark bannerman.

Lyanna was the mystery knight in the tale of the knight in the laughing tree and Howland fell in love with her at the Tourney of Harrenhal

Helen of Troy, indeed.

If my Meera/Jon twin theory pans out, I am going to shite a brick.

Hate to say it but this thread has me considering it.....

I think part of the reason I don't like him being brought back is because I HATE the result of L & J being so important. Their affair cost the kingdom several family lines and an incredible loss of life. Why should something like that be rewarded?
There is some evidence that R+L got together specifically to fulfill the "Prince who was Promised / The Song of Ice and Fire" prophecy. It wasn't just a matter of love/lust.

I've never bought the Lyanna/Laughing Knight theory. I thought it was Howland or one of the Starks.
Jousting is pretty fricking physical competition and while Lyanna is a tom boy she is never described as having a manly build unlike Brienne.
