I just thought it was an awesome death we won't get on the show.

LF probably isn't thinking about Jon. His northern strategy is probably to get Sansa and use to control the north.

Varys knows all this stuff, though. Where is Varys in the books? 1 little brief appearance at the very end of ADWD. Other than that, just talked about for 2 novels.
I think that was practicalities of the show that had him in Essos. I think he's been traveling around, in cognito, putting all the pieces into play for Dany. Certainly he must suspect R+L=J, since he - probably most of all of the characters - has a more complete picture of the situation than any other, excepting Bloodraven/3EC and, possibly, LF. Varys may even be working with Bloodraven/3EC.

He had Sansa already. It would seem odd that he didn't use her then. He predicted her escaping? No way.

I'm sorry. But frick Jon Snow being alive. Such a fricking cop out to keep a popular character alive.
Jon had to die. He was never going to leave the Night's Watch even if he did learn his true parentage or anything else. He was too honorable to break his oath. The only thing that could free him from the Night's Watch was death. "And now his watch has ended".
Resurrected Jon is free from the Night's Watch.

His plan is going to involve Sansa Stark and controlling the North.
Sansa will murder LF for selling her to Ramsay and basically destroying her whole family.
Show Sansa has a motive for killing LF, but in the book LF has been Sansa's savior. LF is the "King Maker" in this series and I think that he continues in that role, especially with everything that is up for grabs in the North.
I see LF as one of the survivors when this thing plays out.

I don't remember the timeline exactly, but Sansa has seen some shite since she was last with LF. I think she is quite a bit harder now than she used to be.

And I'll go one further - I think he had to die at the hands of the Night's Watch. That doubles his justification to leave. If he's been killed leading a defense of the wall, then been magically restored, I think the stubborn SOB would still feel bound to his brothers. But now? All bets are off. "For the Watch." For the Realm - everybody forgot about that. The Watch forgot they were supposed to a defense against The Others and their wights. They shifted to a defense force against Wildlings that had no basis in their original mission. The Starks and their bannermen should have managed the wildling thread, frankly.
But, centuries without their true mission made Night's Watch forget who and what they were.

Goddamn right. Show Sansa got the shaft big time, while her literary counterpart gets probably the happiest outcome we've seen a character have. Flirting with princess and eating lemoncakes is a pretty sweet deal.

Rheagar was the heir to the Iron Throne. The Mad King, his father, was the king. Rheagar won the tournament and surprised everyone when he presented the blue rose to Lyanna and not his wife. Lyanna was betrothed to Robert Baratheon and the Mad King wanted protection for Rheagar. Thus the battle at 'The Tower of Joy'.
I hope that clears up any questions you may have.

I think book-Sansa is still in for some shite, but we shall see. I can't imagine her story just ends with her in the Eyrie.

Sir Gerold "swore a vow". To stop them taking Lyanna? Or protect the only true heir left in Westoros?

Three Kingsguard hanging out a tower where ostensibly only Lyanna is located (who is not part of the royal family) is really suspicious. I believe Gerold also says "this is the beginning," which does make much sense unless they were protecting what they believed was a rightful heir of the Targeryen family.

I looked for you on the Trident,” Ned said to them.
We were not there...Woe to the Usurper if we had been.
