I'm treating everything in the show now as if it doesn't happen in the books. They are obviously changing things, so I don't expect Shireen to get the torch in Winds.
Dany was somewhat reborn from Drogos fire, Jon may be reborn from the Ice of the Wall. The Wall is said to possess magical qualities so that might have something to do with it. That's if the Ceaser attack didn't kill him. Regardless, I expect Mel will leave Stannis in the next episode simply saying she is being called elsewhere. Crazy bitch will probably think burning Shireen is what gave her the vision of Jon as the true AA.

I thought it was kind of ambiguous to whether the wound festered on its own after she tended to it, or if she made it worse. She definitely used it to sacrifice their child, and make Drogo a vegetable.

I don't care whose idea it was. And really, the fact that the issue is even being discussed just confirms that the decision is universally detested. What a horrible, shallow, cheap way to stir controversy. D&D are hacks of the highest order.
I can only assume that the show and gurm were concerned that Stannis was becoming too popular, so they had to have him do something that would destroy his character. Show watchers aren't aware that he's basically a fraud, so they had to defame him in some way. It was the right mindset, but the absolute wrong implementation.
Seriously, if I ever encounter D or D or GURM in my lifetime, I will knock them the frick out. What a base, cheap, hackish, miserable and dirty way to stir controversy. People bereft of real creativity do things like this.
