Stannis is hellbound. I've thought he was for a while, but this episode confirmed it. Stannis will have the single worst fate of all the characters. Mel just doing this on her own accord wouldn't make it as meaningful. I think this will go down as the definitive moral event horizon.

26 pages of debate about what's worse killing or child or sansa's rape and nobody seems to recall the King's guard in the bravoos whorehouse making them find a underage maid to rape all night..........
You're just bringing up a normal Tuesday night for the Mountain. This is a level of evil I think the Mountain would vomit to.

So he's on a frozen lake waiting for the Boltons/Freys and at Castle Black at the same time? Stannis = Benjen cofirmed
He doesn't have to be at Castle Black go give the order to sacrifice her.

If the Mountain had a daughter and burning her alive on a whim he doesn't really believe in? Hell, he let his brother's face off the fire eventually, nevertheless his own daughter.

Killing Shireen was Stannis Hail Mary Bomb to the end zone
His men are freezing to death, starving to death and abandoning him daily. By sacrificing his daughter, a desperate man made a desperate play. I am sure in his mind it was less about sacrificing her for power and more about trying to save a lot of his soldiers by letting the witch have her way to appease the God of Light
And frick his wife, she started all of this with Elisandre, she gave her approval to murder her only child and then she tried to back out. Too late
The harpies attacking one at a time was a joke. I don't think the spears really hurt Drogon, just made him mad. Citizens of mereen have seen their Queen's true power, the Harpies are finished. Dany controlling her dragons and riding them may prompt her to finally leave and go to westeros to wreck shite. That is the only hope for Westeros to survive the winter that soon will be coming south. Dragons vs Wights and White walkers, winner take all.
Snow smiling at Ollie and Ollie glaring back sets up the obvious scenario for the stabbing of Snow. I think that will be the cliff hanger for next season, Snow is "dead" the white walkers are coming and the Night's Watch is pretty much finished with Thorne in charge

I think Mel has his mind so messed up in believing that he is the Prince that was Promised, that he believed he had to do it to fulfill his destiny so that he can save Westeros from the White Walkers.
ETA: His speech to his daughter explained his reasoning.

Jeez some of you suck Martin's dick so hard it's not even funny. Yes the world and characters he's created are amazing, but if anyone's jumped the shark it's him. Dude wants to wrap this whole thing up in seven books and spends half the fifth book on some Dornish princes we're just now meeting, who end up dying at the end of the book and literally have no bearing on the overall plot.
This was a great episode, the fighting pit scene CGI was a bit campy, but the fighting and Drogon arriving was awesome. Tyrion's face throughout, from the double entendres in the suite to the arrival of Drogon, was perfection.
Both major "departures" from the book, the arya and stannis storylines, aren't even departures. They're both going to happen in the sixth book. Stannis is clearly pulling a Walter White and breaking bad, his pursuit of power and growing slavishness to Melisandre will end with him being the main evil in the story. Arya and Trant is basically taken directly from a sixth book preview chapter.
And like Martin doesn't do shite just for shock value. One red wedding was a plot twist. Then the purple wedding, then Jon's stabbing, at a certain point dying unexpectedly isn't a plot twist. Martin needed this show to streamline his work for him. Point is not everything good comes from Martin and everything bad comes from D&D

If it might make him King of a continent? Yeah he'd probably give it a shot.

Yep, just sending an order to let the daughter you care for be burned alive, while you are starving and plotting military strategies, is even more unlikely than the guy watching it happen. I would take bookmark bets Mel/Selyse do it themselves.

To be clear, we are talking about the same Moutain that killed an infant and raped it's mother with the infants brains still on his fingers right?
There's not some other Moutain I don't know about?

I'm just saying we crossed a new threshold of evil in this universe.

And that the Moutain would never do such a thing, which I don't buy for a second

Did you not watch the D&D recap posted in this thread? D&D clearly said that they were shocked that GRRM had this planned. Stannis is killing his daughter in the next book.

Dany ain't getting no fricking greyscale. She could bath in an aids infested ebola Pale Mare hot tub and not even get a rash.

Didn't he have armor over his infected area though?
