Right. And what did people expect to happen between the 2 on their wedding night - for Ramsey to become a normal husband and have normal wedding night sex with her?

And there have been other rape scenes on the show. The gripe with this one is that they are beating a dead horse with portraying Ramsay as sadistic and Sansa as the girl who always gets shite on.

I kind of felt like the rape scene served two purposes.

1. A potential breaking point for Reek/Theon

2. That Sansa has lost her last bit of innocence and will now finally transform. Becoming colder and learning how to play her part after all of the terrible things that has happened to her. Then her vengeful spirit being coaxed by Littlefinger and learning some cunning and what not. And now that last bit of the "old Sansa" is now gone. She has nothing left than to transform into one of the people that thrives in this country.. Cutthroat and coniving to survive. Almost like Arya having to give up her old life.. This is another transformation of a different kind through different ( but also painstaking ) circumstances to become what she is to become if she wishes (as she had before) to rule in this world.

I may be in the minority here, but that wasn't a rape.

As an analogy, think of Queen Gorgo allowing Theron to take her in 300. She doesn't want to have sex with him for pleasure, as she is reviled by him and hates him, but she lets him do what he wants to her so she can get what she needs in the political game. She later gets her revenge as well.

Very similar situation here. Sansa knows beforehand the Bolton's killed her brother and mother. She makes the decision to play the game when Little Finger ask her on the way if she wants to turn around or stop being the scared girl. She tells Little Finger she is afraid of them, and he tells her she should be. She sat through the dinner we saw where Ramsey and his family were clearly off the deep end. She didn't try to escape or get help after that. She saw what Ramsey had done to Theon in the kennel and at that dinner. Miranda had already told her Ramsey had been hunting previous girls that bored him. Sansa also knew she could put the candle in the tower if she needed help, but she didn't. She went through with the wedding knowing full well it was not going to be enjoyable. Sansa makes the decision to put up with whatever is necessary for her to finally be able to avenge her family.

A Tyrion scene provides the best line of the season so far: "The dwarf lives until we find a cock merchant".

I laughed more when Tyrion said "Guess again" ... or something to that effect.

Also they have shown or we have heard every post wedding sex scene in GoT for every wedding that has taken place that didn't immediately end in murder. This was another in a long line

I think you're on the right lines here KingSlayer. I don't think it was a rape; I just use that term since that's what it is being described as. It was definitely him "taking her" and she may not have wanted to but she knows what she has to do. Honestly if this wasn't Sansa's virginity we may not even be talking about it quite like this. But I think that speaks to more to the point I was making in my last post. This is the last bit of purity being ripped from her and it's time for her to become a cold, contriving player in The Game.

Yeah etm512. I concede this point as well. That's why I was saying if it wasn't Sansa and her virginity we might not even be talking about this.. But I think the implications of this scene are more than that.

I do agree that Cersei is out of allies and now she is turning to LF who will gladly stab her in the back when the time is right.

Definitely this.

I don't think LF has any intention of launching an attack against Stannis at Winterfell. I think he is just setting himself up in case somehow Stannis is defeated. The Boltons would be weakened and he could swoop in and crush them.

I think his plan is to let Mannis and his army defeat the Boltons and take Winterfell...which would mean that Roose/Ramsay are dead, which would mean that Sansa is now widowed and he can swoop in and marry her. He's already played her so perfectly that she'd marry him in a heartbeat, and then there's the whole thing about how he could never have Catelyn, so Sansa is the next best thing. And that would unite Winterfell and The Eyrie, solidifying the North.
quote:

If Stannis defeats the Boltons he could turn on Cersei and clear the way for Stannis to take the iron throne.

I don't think LF actually plans to do anything to get his hands dirty, although I do think that if it came down to it, he would merk Cersei in a second. But I think he will continue to play both sides and let Cersei drown herself in a sea of greed. He knows that if he sits back and lets things play out that Mannis can take the North (leaving it open perhaps), and will then march right on into Winterfell and take it easily. No doubt his army can defeat the Faith Militant pretty easily. Then LF peaces out of K'sL, heads back to the Eyrie, marries Sansa, and rules the North.

FWIW, I agree with this almost fully. Sansa knows what's up with that freak, and she knows that she just has to basically put up with his bullshite long enough for pieces to start falling into place. She knew that he'd hit it on their wedding night, and so she just bent over and took it. Of course it was not pleasurable, and having Theon there obviously added another layer of awkward to it, but she knew what she was gonna put up with based on all of the things leading up to it like you said.

Hopefully we will have some sort of payoff for all of it. But then again, it's GoT, so she could very well die soon...and on top of that, she's a fricking Stark, and we all know how much GRRM hates that family, so she may have died during the week between episodes for all we know.

A smart general doesn't go into battle with the infantry. He lays back and assesses the battlefield first.

I spent a good bit of this thread wondering why you all thought Leonard Fournette was going to fight or team up with Stannis Baratheon.

Like the audience needed more convincing that Ramsay is crazy.

The audience didn't but Sansa did.

Before all she knew was some rambling from a peasant girl that's pissed about losing her boo and the ultra awkward forced apology from Theon. She now knows for sure that everything she has heard about Ramsey is true and that she needs to take the fricker out regardless of what might happen when Stannis attempts to take Winterfell.

Also, it's ridiculous to say it was a pointless scene that will give no payoff when it was only the 6th episode of season in a show that we know is a lock to get 2 or 3 more years of air time.

It seems to be pretty widely known that she and Jaime are the parents of Tommen as illustrated in this season by the people yelling bastard when he initially went to free Loras. The old lady Tyrell isn't stupid and it would seem that she could easily produce witnesses to put the screws to Cersei if push comes to shove. The Sparrows have made a point of showing that no one is above the law and I don't think Cersei has even considered that she is in any danger. That's a terrible spot to be in with this show.

I am sure it has been mentioned, but Lancell used to tap dat. I imagine he rats her out.
