You know, I think someone posted in the reader thread (mostly joking), maybe GRRM kills everybody.
This IS on HBO, and it wouldn't be totally new to them- they cleaned out the Sopranos pretty much, by the end.
And, this isn't "Earth". There are dragons, zombies, white walkers, and vagina monsters. And almost everyone has done some despicable things at times, they all have some rough flaws in their histories.
Maybe, that's the deal. Maybe Jon Snow could have saved their world, but he was betrayed by some narrow-minded preteen, Dany could have but gets raped and killed by the Dothraki, and everything falls.
Doubtful, but would be an interesting way to close the story.

'm not sure Stannis is dead. Re-watch the scene and it definitely looks like Brienne is hit from behind before finishing her swing.

I did. It definitely doesn't.

I know these threads are borderline psycho about these things, but Kit Harrington has now confirmed in a few interviews tonight that Jon Snow is dead, and he won't be back on the show next season, as far as he is aware.

quote:Wasn't that AFTER Sansa and Theon jumped? Maybe the squire saw them, and came to stop her.
Did anybody else see something moving in the trees behind Brienne? I thought I saw Stannis shift his eyes slightly before the alleged "kill shot" took place
So, who's dead and gone, and who's coming back season 6?
Jon Snow
Stannis
Sansa and Theon
Prince Trestane (Doran's son)
I think Doran's son is overboard by the time we restart, and everyone else is alive (again), by the end of the first episode.
Snow likely dies but gets resurrected by Melisandre, and Jon may be damn willing to provide her with a few Night's Watch to burn.
Stannis probably lives, and might become Sansa's version of Ser Jorah (without the creepy obsession).
Sansa and Theon survive the jump, and may/may not meet up with Brienne and Stannis. I think they take a little quest to find Bran and Rickon (where's Rickon, anyway?)

Snow isn't dead. Pretty sure he is the ICE in " a song of ice and fire"

No doubt. The "frick yeah!!!" Factor loses its luster when people think it's going to happen...

What if snow cones back as a general for the white walkers? Hmmm...

Stannis is deadnnis
"Do your duty".
Her duty was to protect Renly, and she failed. She swore vengeance, but that's personal, not duty. Her duty now is to protect Sansa, and the Boltons will be after her. Stannis is, if nothing else, not on the Boltons' side; and his sword could be helpful in a fight.
On his part, living after what he's done might be a terrible punishment, and saving Sansa might be some little act of atonement for all he's done.
adding- classic season finale gimmick to show an apparent action, only to cut away before it happens. We don't see him die. With all the Snow talk, Stannis showing up alive in season 6 ep 1 might actually be a legit surprise.

can't believe I couldn't place the role where I knew the High Sparrow from
finally hit it tonight... he's a Bond villain...
Elliot Carver in "Tomorrow Never Dies"

That Cersei sequence was fine, and I love the idea of it, but it could have been 50% shorter and still accomplished all of the same things.
There were several times watching it when I thought,"Is this really still happening?", or,"When will this be over?".
Again, no complaint about the content, but it was so long. I was really hoping for a surprise, quick glimpse of Bran.
