I just want the books to finish well. I'll watch the show, but I've given up on it making sense.

I just looked up the wiki for PtwP. Mel uses the term interchangeably with AA, but there seems to still be a lot of ambiguity. If Dany and Jon (along with a third person) join forces to form a single entity (three headed dragon), maybe that explains it. AA and PtwP are the same, but different.
The end game of the entire series could very likely be Jon + Dany = Aegon VII. That would fulfill the vision in the House of the Undying.
quote:
“Aegon,” he said to a woman nursing a newborn babe in a great wooden bed. “What better name for a king?” "Will you make a song for him?” the woman asked.
“He has a song,” the man replied. “He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire.”

I just don't buy GRRM bringing in a guy that late and having him be one of THE guys at the end. But he seems like a perfect fit for the classic "false prophet" storyline
Agreed and it would be awful writing if he's legit.

They'll have the same ending, so if you like one, you'll probably like the other.

I read that as Dany seeing Rhaegar.
quote:
a man who looked like Viserys, but taller and with darker eyes, who says to a woman nursing a baby, "Aegon…What better name for a king…He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire"; and when the man’s eyes meet Dany’s, he says either to her or the woman with the baby, "There must be one more…The dragon has three heads", and he picks up a silver harp and begins to play;
I could be wrong.
ETA: And either a dreamlike vision or her seeing an idealized version of Rhaegar and Lyanna right before he leaves for the Battle of the Trident. But - as Rhaeger and Elia had a son name Aegon, and Griff, Jr. is being held out as Aegon -

Yeah, you are correct, I believe. The vision was actually Rhaegar naming Aegon as tPtwP.

Yeah but Rhegar thought everyone was the prince that was promised

Good point - and he said, "There must be one more." - I just had a thought (shocking, I know) - this may be more appropriate for the crackpot thread - but is it possible that Rhaegar saw Dany in the future? And this prompted him to run off with the Stark woman.
Another thing I'm not 100% certain of - Lyanna died in what is strongly implied to be a childbirth bed. Assuming that is true, how far apart in age would Aegon and this, as yet unnamed (but suspected to be Jon Snow) baby be?

There's a big theory that Rhagar didn't hook up with Ryhanna out of love, but because he thought he needed the "ice" in the song of fire and ice to create the PtwP
Some think they were both in love, some say he wasn't, some say she wasn't, probably doesn't matter but it's interesting

I don't necessarily think they confuse one for the other. I think they are components of the same thing. That might confuse people who are interpreting the prophesies. They're talking about a single entity but it's composed of three individuals.

Aegon was already born while the war was going on
Jon Snow would've been born at the tower of Joy a good bit after the war because it was after Ned left KL

Yeah - Ned went from the Sack to ToJ.
The Bleeding Star appeared when Aegon was born, and again in the events of Game of Thrones - interesting that it is associated with his birth and not that of R+L=J.
The dragon has 3 heads, indeed. So where is the real Aegon if Young Griff is an imposter?

Dead under the fingernails of the Moutain
There's three heads, but one doesn't have to be Aegon
I personally don't even believe that they all will have to be Targs

I don't disagree with any of this, in principle. But I do believe that Dany is the obvious one and R+L=J. The third is the subject of massive crackpotting.

True. But IF Aegon is a part of the 3 heads, then it will be Young Griff, I don't see them pulling out ANOTHER Aegon out of nowhere. That would just be silly

Dead. Killed by the Mountain as an infant.

Maybe - but it is strongly implied that Varys has been running this op for years - and if they sacrificed 1 innocent babe (whoever it was that died with Elia), they could do a double fake with another double. How many doubles did Castro use? How many did Saddam use?
There are examples in the real world, so why not in ASOIAF?
ETA: For the record I think that Aegon was killed by the Mountain, and that Young Griff is an imposter (and that he doesn't know he is an imposter, on top of all of that).

Aegon is the pisswater prince. He dies trying to mount a dragon.

Well, dany and Jon were born at almost the same time. Is there another character we know of that was born at the end of the war?
