I read an interview with the two writers about this. They said they approached Martin about the show for HBO, and Martin said he'd do it if they could correctly answer one question: Who is Jon Snow's mother? They knew it, and could do the show. So I'm assuming it's somewhere in the books past where the t.v. show is.

I can't remember where I read the interview. But it was really interesting.

The interview was posted in one of these threads. It was the same interview that said who Joffrey's killer was two weeks before the episode aired.

-when jon snow brought to Kat by Ned he was sickly and ill

When was that said?
quote:

-The writers referencing C&R's sick baby and Kat's story of sick baby purposefully shows the tie.

I thought Cersei's baby was stillborn, not "sick."

Cat's story of the sick child (the one she tells to Talisa) is about Jon when he was a boy...not when he was an infant first brought to her.
quote:

kat in the video says, when he brought that boy home, I cursed him and wanted him dead, he got sick, and the maester said that he might not last the night. She "listed to his rugged little breaths, his couging, his wimpering. When my husband brought that baby home from the war I couldn't bear to look at him"

You have the time messed up. She talks about one of the boys getting the pox, then later says when Ned brought the baby home she wished him dead, and then later he got the pox. He wasn't sick when he brought him to Winterfell.

Here is the scene: LINK Starts around 1:45.

Exactly why shite (outside of the show) like that shouldn't really be posted in here IMO.

I saw an article earlier today that referenced what you are talking about (with GRRM and the writers), but it spoiled nothing..just talked about how GRRM quizzed them and they got it right (never said what the answer was).

I haven't read or googled shite since last season when I ruined the Red Wedding for myself. All of my thoughts on John Snow are purely conjecture and my thoughts based on what I have seen on the show. If you don't believe me, that's your problem.

she says when Ned brought Jon home, she prayed that the Gods would take him away and he then got sick.

are you saying that she is saying that she waited for a few years before she prayed to the Gods? Or that years later when he got sick she thinks it was from a prayer that she said years earlier?

I see it as, Ned shows up with kid, she is angry and hurt and sincerely prays that he dies or something...then she sees the kid is sick and feels guilty.

one sick black haired baby around the time of another sick black haired baby...just coincidence?

2 sick black haired babies? I'm pretty sure Ned came home long before Robert knocked up Cersei.

I don't believe or not believe you. I'm not even sure what you said previously.

You said this:
quote:

-Cersi and Robert's first kid was a "black haired" "Bird"
-Supposedly died with illness
-when jon snow brought to Kat by Ned he was sickly and ill
-Cersi wanted Rob's seed dead because she wanted Joffrey(true Lannister) to be king
-"Bird" is writer reference to "Crow"
-The writers referencing C&R's sick baby and Kat's story of sick baby purposefully shows the tie.

Basically that "Cersei lost a sick baby and Ned brought home a sick baby...coincidence?," as in you're asuming that it's the same baby. And I'm telling you that it's not a coincidence because Ned didn't bring home a sick baby...he brought home Jon Snow, who later got the pox.

Cat's point was that she resented Jon so much (after Ned brought him home) that she wished him dead. Then, when he got sick, she felt like shite for doing so and she made him one of those dreamcatcher/protection things because she felt so horrible, and begged the gods to spare his life, which they did. Her story was all about her feeling like she was a terrible person because she simply couldn't love Jon Snow even though nothing was his fault.

And also very much this:
quote:

I'm pretty sure Ned came home long before Robert knocked up Cersei.

I think Ned either knocked up somebody pretty damn important or it's not his kid. And if it's not his kid, whose is it?

I guess there's no chance it could be Robert and Lyanna's, huh? They were in love pretty hardcore (if you let Robert tell it) before she was kidnapped by Rhaegar. That wouldn't make much sense since there's no way Robert wouldn't have claimed him, but I'm just spitballing.

I listed that as an option if you want to scroll back about 15 pages.

ETA: Here, I'll do it for you:

quote:

So let's speculate....WHO is John Snow really?

a) Son of Ned Stark and some commoner
b) Son of Ned Stark and some Baratheon
c) Son of Ned Stark and some Targarian
d) Son of Lyanna Stark and Robert Baratheon
e) Son of Lyanna Stark and a Targarian
f) Son of some Targarian
h) Someone else?

Actually I figured he was Robert and Lynna's son.
i just do not agree how any of this can be thought as a theory without going by something either read online about the books or a piece of info someone told you/posted about the books.... From watching the show all you know is Jon, is Neds bastard.....thats it.

again i just dont see how a pure show watcher can assume anything other than JHon being Neds son.....There has been nothing to really hint that his mother has any importance.

You don't have a very inquisitive mind.

Why would keeping who his mother is a secret be such a big deal?
Why would the red lady look at him like she was peering into his soul?

it hasbt been made into a big deal. maybe Ned didnt want to mess up Jons mind/self confidence by telling him his mom was a 2 bit whore.

Are you kidding me? She just say the "leader" of the Nights watch being all "Leadery". She was all like. "Whoa, that sexy kid turns me on with all his self confidence and leadery actions"

There is no way for you to assume she was looking into his soul from across the battlefield. If you want to go down that path, remember she had to look into Arya's eyes from point blank range to see the death him her eyes.

Myself and my gf started this whole show about 3 weeks ago (from Episode 1, Season 1) and just finished up the other night. And she thought this very same thing after Ned said he would tell him about his mother the next time he saw him. We've had many weird theories that haven't panned out or are still yet to be seen.

But yeah, it's entirely possible someone could think of something like this.

We didn't even know there were books about this show until about a week ago. And no, we haven't read one page of the books nor read anything online. We both kept ourselves in the dark and wouldn't read about the series so we wouldn't be ruined with spoilers.
