I think Dorne plays a massive part moving forward. They just needed a reason to get into the fray.
An alliance with the Martells was important to Tywin because Dorne was the only land to succesfully protect themselves against Aegon's dragons. I assume Oberyn's head being caved in ends that possibility and puts King's Landing in even worse shape.

I think it's less the head getting caved in and more that the Mountain confessed in front of a couple hundred people.

Moving on from Oberyn...
It seems pretty clear that Episode 9 is solely a war episode like seasons 1 and 2. Stannis will obviously show up just in time to save the day (or try to). It will be interesting to see who dies out of the big wilding characters - Ygritte/Bearded Guy/Crow Savage Eater Guy. Also, will any of the Sam, Pip, etc Night's Watch guys die? Will any of the Stannis characters like Davos die? Will the zombies or WW be involved at all in the battle?
Littlefinger is trying to build a Tywin-esque empire by ruling behind the scenes. He has a well-protected castle and Robin can be his puppet. Sansa looked a lot like Cersei at the end of episode.
Jorah's exile was very unexpected and I'm glad it may progress that boring storyline further. I don't see him abandoning her completely. Maybe he'll spy on Westeros for her now in order to win her favor back? Where the hell did Daario go again and should we care?
Arya and the Hound - will Arya actually reunite with Sansa or will they just turn around? The Hound seems like a dead man since they keep referencing his injury and lack of fire-purging.
