that death hurt me wayyyy more than robb starks death.just someting about oberyn made me wanna see him destroy the mountain. all the hodors i watched with were amazed at how he was toying with the mountain and showing insane spear skills with no armor on at all. that cut on the calf was straight out the book and it was great
damn u oberyn why did u have to hear a confesssion instead of just killing the mountain?!!!

They didn't have Gregor coughing up black blood. I guess that will happen in E10.

OK just finished the episode...
I get why everyone is hating on the Missandei / Grey Worm scenes... but I didnt mind it. First off, they are giving both of them larger roles in the show than in the book so they gotta find / fit in a storyline in there somehow. Secondly, I think it also shows the affect that Dany has had on these former slaves, especially with the unsullied. They are beginning to feel again and are almost remembering what its like to be human. I get the hate and all that, but the scene didnt really bother me. Plus, I think they are obviously setting us up with them in the future.
Arya's laughter was great. And I dont think she had ever met her Aunt Lysa, so I can understand why she wasnt really that sad. Plus, the Hound has been dragging her all over Westeros to get her to some form of family member... and every time they get close, that family member dies... so I get why shes laughing at that notion. IMO, shes by far the best "kid" actress / actor on the show.
The Moles Town scene was pretty awesome. Those Thenns are badass and love they way they portray them in the show. Lovely to see Ygriette again and showing some compassion.
Like some other posters, I do think they are doing a shitty job setting up the battle at the Wall. Those chapters are some of the best in the entire series and wish they would have done a better job with setting it up in the show. But I cant wait to see Jon behead that doucher Janos Slynt.
And this brings me to the fight between Oberyn and the Mountain. First off, well done HBO people, well done. Stuck to the book and it was done as well as could be IMO. I loved seeing the reactions of Cersei, Tywin, and Jaime during diff parts of the fight. Also loved when Tywin cuts off Pycell... was perfect
Solid episode... but damn they have a bunch to fit in with these last few episodes... hopefully they dont leave some out and are able to fit all of it in this season. But yeah I agree with what some people have said about D&D doing a great job and speeding up some of the characters plot lines, and most of those characters needed that for TV.

Agree with you on the Grey Worm storyline. In the book, Martin shows that the Unsullied are still men and still have feelings and desires, but he reveals it when one is murdered by the Sons of the Harpy on his way to/from a brothel. It may have even been Missandei (I forget) who explains to Dany that many go because they still have needs and want to be with women even though they can't have sex.
Arya laughing was pretty good. Still, you would think that they would know who Arya Stark was and would bring her in even though Lysa was dead.
Sansa spilling the truth about her identity was a surprise. I also figured that she would use her beauty and would be more seductive later in the story to get her way, but D&D are giving us glimpses of that now.
They're going to mash the raiders from the South and Mance's attack from the North into the same battle. Oh well. I really hope that they just have the first wave from Mance and not the full battle with Stannis arriving. I think it's important to give enough time to "You know nothing, Jon Snow" and Jon going to treat with Mance, but I have a feeling that the latter part will be cut. They have not done enough to develop the relationships between Jon, Tormund and Mance.
I had to rewatch the trial by combat. Very well done.

From Hodor thread:

Actually, I am learning that George is predictable. I think it's such a ridiculous way out at this point. He's killing off all the good characters and tonight was cheap IMO. At this point, Tyrion is scheduled to die. Arya/Hound and Jon Snow are the only characters left that I like if Tyrion does die. Hopefully the last 2 episodes redeem this horseshite

I'm interested to how they react to Tywin's death. They all seem to hate to love the character. Hard not to really. I was pumped in the books though. That accompanied with Tyrions release got me back on track.

That's awesome.

man...that death was brutal to watch, and pissed me off just as much as in the books
Oberyn's death pissed me off much more than the Red Wedding.
And somehow this was one spoiler that my wife had not read yet, and it's always great to hear my little, sweet, innocent wife let out a loud "WHAT THE frick!?"

Reading the Hodor thread after this episode has been awesome.
They still think Dany is about to wreck shite in Westeros!

From the Hodor thread:
quote:
If I was writing this shite Tyrion would be smuggled to Essos where he would hook up with Dany and return later to wreck shite on his family. RR will probably have him put in a catapult and slammed into the side of a building.

yeah that was kinda fishy

They wasted all of that time talking about some retard killing bugs, so we got a rushed fight
I could be wrong but it may have foreshadowed at least one of Elia and Rhaegars' children not dying. Maybe it was a lanister cousin that had its head bashed in and was presented to Robert as dead and not Aegon.

I know, right? It's almost like they haven't even read the books!

Hodor's are just starting to get a little wiser I think. Getting far enough into the story where they can figure it out. Tyrion has no other place to go really. So I can see where they will figure it out.
They are also calling Oberyn a bitch because he screamed while having his head exploded. IMO he gets a pass, but that's just me.

Uh, yeah. Oberyn had the most violent death of a major/minor character so far...he gets a pass.

Yeah, I think if an 8 ft tall dude was pushing my eyeballs through the back of my skull with armored thumbs the size of Manda sausages I might at least whimper a little. The show got it right down to him knocking his teeth out. Usually, your mind's eye can paint a better picture from the books than they can present on the screen, but seeing and hearing it in that scene was definitely more brutal.
Posted on 6/2/14 at 9:02 am to ffishstik
Definitely. My jaw dropped watching that scene; I wrote in the Middle Ground thread that it's one thing to read it, but it's another thing entirely to actually SEE how violent and gruesome it is.
