yeah i don't see why stannis would admit they didnt' have any money...and then bring up the bank only to find out the message has nothing to do with stannis not having any money. i think the "we broke" part mattered a lot more than anything else
it is likely going to set up a conflict that may force stannis to take real action against davos

Oberyn wasn't a huge fan of Rhaegar either, since Rhaegar left Elia for "another woman" (I'm guessing Lyanna Stark). Plus, the Martells resisted the Targaryens before.

Yeah, but most people blew it off because they couldnt wrap their minds around the five whole feet Olenna had to go to drop the poison in Joffrey's cup.
Because she would have had to go by 2 Kingsguard to do it

In any case he wrote the letter and the iron bank is gonna see some play somewhere down the line. With the armies of westoros pretty much dismantled we just assumed it would be dani coming in to take what's left. Now we could have two armies coming from the east to take it. It almost seems like too much.
And then you remember you've got 100,000 wildlings and an army of zombies.

Not really. The Iron Bank will fund the enemies of the people that can't or refuse to pay. Thus they would fund Stannis against the Lannisters if the Lion can't or won't pay his debt. Like we've heard on the show before the Iron Bank gets it's gold one way or the other you pay or they fund your enemies and take it from you.

I'm assuming they'll fund an army led by stannis that's across the narrow sea since that's where bravos is. I dunno where in westoros stannis could raise an army.
Spoilers, but not really.
If you watch the preview that has what's in store for this season, dunno which one it is, you see stannis and Davos going under some giant Greek soldier lookin statue. After this episode I'm assuming that's gotta be Bravos.

Here it is. Around the 50 second mark.

Given that this is the 3rd time in 20 years that something like this has broken our in Westeros, Id say that it seems to fairly normal

Rhaegar Targaryean "dumped" Elia and started the war that ended up killing her when he kidnapped Lyanna Stark.
Ultimately, the Targaryean's insanity was just as big a reason for his sister's death as Tywin was.

I'm ready to see how they depict this great Iron Bank of Bravos. I honestly thought Dany and Co. were standing outside of it in tonight's episode at first.

Do we truly know how "insane" the Targaryeans were or could it all have been Lannister propaganda?
BTW, this episode was spectacular. Best of the season imo.

Isnt Braavos in the far western part of Essos? Based on the maps of the world Dany and company have spent the whole series far to the east of them.
Posted on 4/21/14 at 12:09 am to Roger Klarvin
Yea Westeros is a clusterfrick. I guess the last peace was under the Dragons until the mad king went apeshit.

They've pretty much spent the whole series backing up the "Mad King" claim. He liked to watch people burn alive, one of them drank wildfire thinking it would make him a dragon, etc.
Theyve made it pretty clear they were nuts.

Unless they were making up stuff about how Ned Stark's dad and brother were executed and why Jaime killed the king...it's pretty well documented.
Also, *Targaryen

It's actually spelled Braavos, and it's at the northern tip of Essos.
Posted on 4/21/14 at 12:17 am to jiffyjohnson
Littlefinger is the closest. He probably never sailed to the Eyrie just went straight to Braavos and cut a sweetheart deal.
