I was more upset over the Red Wedding. Just because of the brutality of it all.

I didn't read the books until after Season 1 and while it was a shock, they also cast Sean Bean. And you can pretty well bank on him dying in anything he's cast in.

Was I the only one not really shocked by Ned's death? Maybe it was Sean Bean playing him that put me on the scent, but I didn't expect him to live out the season.

I'm a book reader, but I'm well, well behind - I didn't see that one coming and it upset me more because it was so unnecessary (if it were real events - Ned had no claim on the throne).

I'd seen enough spoilers to know last night was going to happen - I didn't exactly know how, but I knew the what. They did a decent job of foreshadowing without giving it away.

It does sort of put people in 3 camps, now - Stannis, Dany or the Lannisters.

I hadn't read the books yet when Ned died, so that was pretty damned shocking.

Even with know what was coming last night, the brutality of it all may have tipped the Red Wedding into being the bigger surprise had I not known it was going to happen.

As a reader, I can see how the killing off of Ned had more of an effect on the Hodors. The TV really did a poor job of developing Robb as a character that would be missed

I've read the books and Ned still had a bigger effect on me. As I said before, Robb and Catelyn just pissed me off. Robb with the idiotic decisions he made towards the end of his campaign, and Catelyn because she kept wining about her daughters and then let Jaime go.

I'm serious. As soon as we saw who was cast me and my ex looked at each other and he said, "So bets on how long he lasts?".

Well, I read the books and watch the show, so I would definitely say the Red Wedding was the bigger shock. It was like I was reading it but I wasn't. I mean I was reading the words and turning the pages but I wasn't really reading it, like it didn't connect. I must have thrown A Clash of Kings like 4 times over that week.

But on the show Ned's execution was probably the bigger shock. But I was going into last hoping to the last that GRRM would though a big arse curveball and have everything go smoothly.

Ned for certain shocked me more

As I stated in the other thread, there was little doubt Robbie wouldn't make it, and I never liked Cat, was happy to see her go

As a book reader I was more upset at the RW because the way GRRM wrote the scenes make it seem like another main character dies in the book. I ended up flipping through the book to see if I could see the character's name again.
