I'm sorry, but why did he have to do that? Jaime was within sight of Dorne's shore when his daughter died. Go to the shore on you own, have Bronn on the ship with a sword to Trystaine's neck, demand that Elaria and the Sand Snakes are executed immediately, and then get back to your ship and hold Trystane hostage for years. That's pretty basic shite right there.
Or even better yet, don't let the women who have been trying to murder your daughter for no reason anywhere near her in the first place. They are just totally irrational.

Well it at least halfway covers the plot hole of how Trystane ended up on a separate ship.
Still doesn't explain how the sand snakes got on it but there are ways to sneak onto a boat
Although it's really dumb to send back Trystane to Dorne after they just nurdered a princess unless he was afraid Cercei would have him killed at KL

Jamie is not a political man. All he sees is an innocent kid that loved his daughter who is goin to be slaughtered in Kings landing
Also Trystane would've been completely worthless even if they did keep him. Sand snakes are apparently in full control with the support of Dornes soldiers, and they clearly didn't give a shite about Trystane

They just need to have a straightforward fight between Dorne and the Lannisters with their allies in which Dorne is completely bowed, bent, and broken.

I'm not sure where you got that from. They have plenty of ammo on the lannisters already, they don't need to frame them for another murder to start a war

There's obviously going to be nothing to Dorne in the books, after all. I'm just pretending the Dorne storyline in the show is just a series of bad dreams.

Jamie clearly knew Trystan and Myrcella loved each other and Trystan would never hurt her, and neither would Doran based on the experience Jamie just had where Doran and Trystan spared him his life AND Bronn's. Jamie knows if that boy gets off the boat, that Cersei will have his head. He says that in the note to Doran. He knows the snakes killed her. It's best to send Trystan back home. I would wager Trystan wanted to stay for the funeral then he would leave due to the fact he was painting the eyes on the rocks.

They killed Trystane to end the Martell royal line of succession. Not to frame the Lannisters. They already had the support of the people as shown by the soldiers just watching doran get murdered
But I think the main point of what happened Sunday was to minimize the Dorne storyline they clearly already fricked up
