I feel at times like the show is asking more and more for the viewers to suspend disbelief with regards to physical limitations, which bothers me.

Exactly. She is using their training to kill people she personally wants to kill. Becoming "No One" is so that you are an instrument of the many-faced god where you kill the people that the many-faced god wants dead and only those.
They get paid to kill people. There's nothing noble or mystical about it.

Why do people keep asserting that "unpredictability" is automatically an example of good writing?

As someone else pointed out, a fricking Klingon invasion would be unexpected. That wouldn't be good writing though. There are plenty of other examples.

Nearly all stories we read or watch are vaguely predictable. The truth is that we like stories where the good guy wins. You aren't going to find many examples of well-liked stories where the bad guy wins. Additionally GRRM has repeatedly said his series isn't nihilistic, so the ultimate bad guy (the night king) won't win.

We've known for a long time that some set of "good guys" will come out on top. Cersei winning would be unexpected, but I would be royally pissed regardless of the surprise. I think the unexpected part is more that Jaime is suddenly a good guy and that he may very well survive the series. Smaller things like that.

I mean, no shite. Are you really complaining that it finally happened? It would have made no sense for her never to make it. Her inclusion to this extent in the story would have been a total waste of time if she did not make it.

This is the worst epitome of bitching just to bitch.

If GoT (and ASOIAF) ended with Danny still wandering about slaver's bay fricking Daario then I would have thrown something.

I'll be very surprised if this happens. I guess Howland Reed is the only one that knows for sure Jon's lineage.

I don't care what you think. GoT has been extremely unpredictable throughout most of it's production. Just because the writers don't choose to avoid the obvious in the final season by creating some ridiculous twists to dodge fan prognostications, in no way detracts from the overall outstanding quality of this series.

i actually agree

last night, while being mostly filler, was cringe-worthy at times. the writers seem to be writing characters like fan fiction (as in, the characters/do say what they're supposed/expected to and don't act like actual, deep characters)

what made GOT great was the deep, realistic characters and lack of predictability

I just finished rewatching the series and I forgot how much of a turkey season 5 and even last season was until the last 2 episodes.

thank you

if you do an entire re-watch in a short period of time, when you hit seasons 2-3 you REALLY feel the difference in quality

Let's be honest, you were going to say this no matter what.

The writing of this show is cheesy without the book's text to fall back on. Everyone could see Arya getting revenge on the Freys from a mile away. Everyone knew that Daenerys would make it to Westeros.

Cersei is definitely going to lose. Snow will definitely defeat the white walkers. Snow and Daenerys will get married thereby completing the song of ice and fire and live happily ever after. The end.

Its not the series fault completely - ASOIAF / GOT was lauded as this brand new fantasy story BUT it falls back on the standard archetypes / tropes - which is expected but goes against why everyone said it was so awesome after 3 or 4 books

For a fantasy series to be really good, you have to focus on characters, their relationships, decisions, growth, etc. because the stories follow the same format with some attempted distractions. I can't think of any of the characters that I actually give a frick about except for certain ones that i would be happy if they died. Snow, Sansa, Arya and Jamie have had some interesting moments in terms of character development.

A good fantasy series isn't just "frick yeah dragons, swords, assassins, surprise death, unsuspected help to gain victory from defeat etc." anymore cause all of that has been done countless times.

I just don't understand what the "point" of this series is yet - beyond saving the world from the ice zombies. I thought the fact last season about the Children creating the whitewalkers to defend themselves against humans was interesting and wish they would explore that more - those are the kinds of questions that make for a compelling and original fantasy series IMO.

Also random things like why nobody wanted to occupy that castle for the last 15 years have really started to eat away at my appreciation for this one.
