I don't think so
Eta: I mean I'm sure they got there on horses, but I don't remember anything about them fighting on them

I always thought they were mounted because

'they were only shadows on horses made of mist 7 facing 3, in the dream as it had been in life, but these were no ordinary three.' or something to that effect. And one of Ned's knights was on a red horse.

And Ned is seeded entirely too fricking high. The majority of this bracket would cut through him without breaking a sweat. Ned's strength resided in his tactical battlefield strengths and his talent for ruling. He's not a swordsman or at least not a great one.

And when you say the "magnar of Thenn" do you mean Styr or Sigorn? The magnar of Thenn is a title not a name. It's like putting The Lord of Winterfell as a combatant.

Disagree. Even old ned stood toe to toe and held his own with Kingslayer in KL when he confronted him outside LF place.

You can make the case that maybe Jaime was toying with him but cant say that for sure.

interesting take on Ned's swordmanship

quote:

“The Wolf and the Lion” takes place in the novel, what actually happens is very different from what happens on the show: Eddard Stark is explicitly left alone by the Lannister men, who have strict orders not to harm him, and he ends up having to charge at them in a futile attempt to try and save his men. When he attacks them, most just dodge away, but none of them actually seem to fight back.

Last but not least, however, there’s Martin’s own words, when he made note of the fact that the best fighter of the Starks was Brandon, and Ned’s talents lay elsewhere

quote:

certainly true that Eddard was a courageous man, a capable man. But a great sword? If he was a great sword, why does Sansa remember seeing Bronze Yohn Royce — a famous knight and lord — defeat him and Ser Rodrik Cassel, Winterfell’s master-at-arms, in the practice yard at Winterfell?

you could argue that Ned was the worst of the three Stark brothers with the sword, but still think he could cut down a wilding

He never fought Jaime outside little fingers brothel.... His horse was injured and fell on his leg and then he was taken to the black cells. The only scene we ever read about Ned actually using his sword is the opening scene when he executes Gared.

GRRM himself has stated that Ned was an average swordsman at best and that Brandon was the true talent of the Starks

Ned vs Styr would be a fair fight I think. Styr is probably the least capable of the wildling captains but if Ned had to face Tormund or Mance he would be chopped up with a quickness

Well, Dayne himself actually addresses this saying they would have killed Robert if they were there. Dayne had more important priorities, which you should have a good guess on what they are (don't spoil it for non-readers).

Always wondered why Aery's was willing to give not 1, not 2 but 3 Kingsguard knights to Rhaegar to protect Lyanna. Seems like they would have been more useful elsewhere rather the middle of nowhere Tower of Joy.

meh, Dayne may be a badass but as Ned Stark proved, if you go at him 3 on 1 he will lose.

Aerys probably assumed that Rhaegar wasn't going to use them to protect her, but to instead help him win the war.
