Absolutely the best Star Trek movie ever made.

and also Mel Brooks "Spaceballs"
Well according to the Wiki for this movie, Galaxy Quest would have been more like "Spaceballs" if Harold Ramis had directed it.
Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, and Kevin Kline were all considered before Tim Allen.
Kevin Kline I think would have been a good choice, but Allen really was great in this.

Some of the people offered prior to Allen makes me wonder how that movie would have gone, but it's hard to imagine it would have been better - the movie is damn near perfect.
It perfectly toes the line between sci-fi and satire. It knows it’s silly and embraces it. The actors playing actors know it’s silly but respect it and take it seriously enough until they need to point it out. Sigourney Weavers characters rant on the Chompers is a perfect example of this.

I dont know if I would have like that take....but
I love everything Harold Ramis did. I can't think of a movie he touched that I wouldnt rewatch

I recall reading a retrospective review a few years ago that described the hasty and somewhat haphazard casting, filming, and especially editing due to time constraints. There are so many things that could have been fine-tuned to be even better, but they somehow still managed a wonderful takedown of televised sci-fi tropes. And Allan was amazing

There is a documentary called Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary on Amazon. Really good insight in the whole process of making the movie. Highly recommend it.

Sam Rockwell is phenomenal in this movie

Its up there with Spinal Tap, Best in Show as droll satire.
The best thing about it is the tone...of taking itself seriously, while mocking.
Rewatched it again because of this thread.
And so many buttons they nailed from Star Trek...it's really amazing what they pulled off.
