The first season, definitely. Improved a good bit in S2, and bigly in S3 so far. I used to bitch about some of the acting. But I haven’t at all in the last ten episodes or so.*
* except for Ethan. That little annoying count. frick him.

I'm worried the writers are going to have way too much to answer without it being a dumb ending.
I think they already have everything planned out for the ending. This is a great show that would do so much better on Amazon vs MGM+. Prime and MGM+ must have some sort agreement, because they are always swapping shows and movies.
Spoilers
I guess I should have expected the ambulance and the tree in the road, but I wasn’t. The next episode should be interesting when they roll into town.

IMO it can go two ways mainly. One is that Tabitha now is back in the town with knowledge of how to get back to the real world. Two is that she never really made it out and that was some sort of fake real world also controlled by the town and its forces.
I’m not sure which way I lean but 2 seems more likely since:
- the town has had a vibe like something was sort of “off” the whole time she’s been there. She’s even felt that a little I think.
- a little too many things have aligned in the real world with the hell town, especially Victor’s mom’s drawings and the bottle tree.
- she is still seeing the kid in white. Had she truly left the hell town behind it stands to reason that those weird visions would be over in the real world.
- she called bullshite on it a little in the car with Victor’s dad, and as soon as she did she was punished and sent back to hell town. Victor’s dad even sort of set up a defense of it when he accused Tabitha of faking all of this to frick with him. Which seems like just the thing that’s hell town forces would do just to frick with Tabitha.
Although on the flip side, the fact that it now seems like she’s heading back to the town with new, actual people makes me think maybe it was a real place and she had actually made back out to reality. She also called and spoke to her mom although I guess that could easily be faked by the town forces just like Jim and the phone calls. By the way, how twisted that his dead son (now a grown boy instead of an infant) is calling the house to torment him?
honestly have no idea which one it is, or even which one I would prefer it to be (because they would both be kinda cool to explore). And the fact that I can see both sides of it and agree with some aspects of them both is one reason I love the show.

We know from the trailer that the parademics make it to the town (and probably quickly die?), my question is what about Victor’s dad? I don’t think this is the case because we did see him interact with others, but what if he was a vision the town created? Such as the boy in white, the girls, the people Jade sees, etc. Would be interesting if he just disappears once they enter the town

I didn’t watch the preview, but Victor’s father coming into town is what I’m looking forward too. After Victor went to Sarah asking for bedspreads and mentioned building a fort and telling a story, I believe that has to play a big part in the next episode.

Cool post. Thanks for sharing that insight from the 1st episode. Had forgotten actors name but respect Boyd even more now after reading
Just got back from vacation this weekend and finishing S3E2
ETA so basically sounds like they’re just inside of Victor’s moms acid trip

I was coming to post something like this after thinking more about it last night.
All of this stuff seems to stem from Victor and (apparently) his family. Per the paintings in Victor's dad's basement, the mom was foreseeing everything that the town offers (good and bad). And the whole bottle tree thing is obviously important too. Almost seems like some (all?) of this somehow stemmed from her mind. Like maybe she has/had some sort of weird powers to create this place (intentionally or unintentionally) and control it a bit.
Ultimately I think Victor has to be the key to unlocking this place. And the bottle tree will play heavily into things as well. We already know that it's the one tree that is supposed to (usually) take you to the lighthouse. And in the real world (assuming that's where Tabitha was) it feels like trying to get yourself to that tree is being prevented by.....the town? But we also have seen that Victor's drawings are somehow connected to things that happen, right? But my only hiccup with that is: is he simply drawing things he's seen around the hell town, or is he drawing/dreaming things and the town is bringing them to fruition? We've already seen other peoples' dreams turn to reality (like Elgin, Kenny with the locust on his arm, etc.).
The more I try to talk shite out with myself, the more confusing it gets.

Okay, I'm reading through episode synopses for all of the episodes. I'm gonna jot down some notes in this post to try to piece some shite together from reading the synopses...mainly stuff that I think may be important. I'll revise as things move forward in the show (or if anybody wants me to add additional notes).
I don't expect many people to read all of it, but I wanted everything condensed into a post or two to help me stay less confused.
ETA: Okay here goes...
Basic notes/observations:
- Talismans work on enclosed spaces (houses, the RV, the Colony House foyer, Boyd and Sara’s tent, etc.).
- The town is not located anywhere specific…map showing where everyone came from and was driving when they saw the tree.
- Ethan sees boy in white (BIW) while at Colony House (CH).
- Victor is there since he was a child. Visions of lots of dead people. He sees the BIW and plays with him. Ethan later recognizes the BIW in one of Victor’s drawings (still not sure if he drew it because he saw him or if the BIW manifested from Victor’s drawing).
- Jim and Tabitha had a son who died (Thomas). He later calls Jim on the phone (like a real a-hole).
- Victor tells Ethan about faraway trees and shows him how they work.
- While searching for Ethan, Jim and Tabitha are surrounded by wild dogs and Victor scares them off with a pistol (first time we see him with a gun; we later see him pull it again on Randall when he tries to steal the goat).
- Sara has a seizure in the diner (when she’s told to kill Ethan).
- Ethan also has a seizure. So Boyd suspects the town can cause physical reactions to people, which we later see when Julie, Elgin, Randall, and Marielle when they are consumed by the dreamlike trance with the music box stuff.
- Victor digs two graves at one point (is he more involved with this place than we think?).
- Boyd has early signs of Parkinson’s early in S1.
- Father Khatri’s theory is that there are 73 books in the bible and this is all a test by God to formulate a new 74th book.
- Jade finds the radio and he and Jim later fix it but there is only static.
- Jade sees Civil War soldier ghost. Also sees the symbol (which we later see is the image of the tree roots looking up and out from where the children were bound to tables in the underground monster tunnels).
- Tian-Chen gives Jade the notebook with the drawings of the symbol in them (someone’s stuff who is no longer living there). It also has the photo of Victor as a child.
- Tabitha digs in the basement to find out where the power is coming from.
- Jim builds a taller radio tower (see Control section below).
- Ellis and Fatima survive by using a talisman in the foyer of CH.
- Victor sends Julie through a faraway tree and she ends up in the creepy cellar.
- Boyd is the one who found the talismans (in a cave). He is also the one who found the livestock out in the woods. This helped him naturally transition to the town leader/sheriff. The cave is now a home base/point of reference/safe house of sorts for foraging or anybody out in the woods.
- Boyd and Sara traveled out further than anybody before and found the bottle tree. The bottles had paper messages in them, and Boyd found one dating back to 1864 meaning this place has existed for a long arse time. And I found this in a discussion online with other dates: ",,,numbers scratched into the stone. -1506, 1864, 1609, 1752, 1931, 1883, 1978, 1672, and one more year I can't quite make out." ETA: new number from the trees: 2659.
- Boyd and Sara’s tent is attacked and dragged a long way. Then a huge light and a loud horn (from the lighthouse). They awake the next day in the spider web part of the forest (frick that
).
- Boyd is bitten by spiders (again, frick that) and becomes delirious and weak.
- When the basement collapses and Tabitha falls into the underground tunnels, Victor is already down there and tells her that’s where the monsters sleep. Is this an underrated moment that could mean Victor is somehow in on things with this place?
- Sara pushes Boyd into a faraway tree at the behest of the BIW, and that’s when Boyd ends up at the bottom of the well. So is the BIW not always helpful?
- Jim’s house collapses when he tries to save Tabitha (who didn’t need saving anyway).
- Boyd gets out of the well with the help of Martin. But then we later see Martin chained to the wall. So how could he also help and throw a rope down or whatever? Also, who has him chained up? And why is his blood all wormy and able to kill monsters? So many questions around Martin.
- Martin tells Boyd the creatures are only the “tip of the spear.”
- This is also where Boyd gets the blood worms thing from Martin that they later use.
- Boyd meets up with Victor and Tabitha in Victor’s trailer. I wonder if he has little safe houses type of things all over.
- Tabitha tells Jim the wires weren’t connected to anything.
- Kelly is staked to a tree by the monsters.
- Fatima takes Elgin to the Brundles (their little tubing oasis) and he has previously seen that in a dream while on the bus.
- We learn about Christopher. He was a happy dude but then became consumed by the symbol Jade sees and changed. It’s also apparently his notebook that Tian-Chen gives to Jade.. Victor told Jade at the car graveyard that one night his mom told him to go hide somewhere Christopher didn’t know, and when Victor woke up the next day everybody was dead. So I suspect we will see more about Christopher at some point. And I am wondering if Jade will be consumed by that symbol and try to do the same thing Christopher did (presumably he killed everyone, or was it the monsters?).
- When taking Jade to the car graveyard, Victor comments on the trees and their leaves changing colors and that it was strange. He also says there are more cars out there that were there before he moved all of the ones from when he was there.
- Elgin talks about his grandmother crocheting owls. So if we see owls as a factor at some point, Elgin may be connected to that.
- Elgin and Sara bond. And they both have some weird connections to this place.
- At the car graveyard, Victor tells Jade there are bad things in this place that make people do bad things. So maybe that plays into the “there are worse things than monsters” thing?
- “Anghkooey” is what the scary kids say over and over. I don’t think we know much about what that means yet.
- Tabitha gets a nose bleed after her encounter with the kids at the cave (when she built the blocks puzzle at the entrance). This is further evidence of the town physically affecting people.
- Boyd kills a monster with the wormy blood so he can get a transfusion to save Ellis.
- Elgin is attacked by the silliest monster ever in the tub and she tries to drown him.
- Kenny dreams the cicadas then wakes up and has a sore on his arm from one. And they also kill that girl and attack Randall in the woods and are attached to Marielle and Julie as well.
- Victor’s mother (and sister) leave Victor in the cellar to go “save the children.” Is that when she dies? Or was it when Christopher (presumably) kills everyone? I’m confused on that timeline of events. Nevermind, we find out that was the night she left and the night everyone else died. His sister had drawn a picture of the lighthouse and said that’s where their mom was going. So I assume his sister was killed by Christopher and his mom was killed near the bottle tree.
- Victor says “pictures are for things that are gone.” However, a lot of what he draws still take place and are around.
I don't expect many people to read all of it, but I wanted everything condensed into a post or two to help me stay less confused.

Basic notes continued..
- Victor’s father tells Tabitha his wife hallucinated often and said she was the chosen one to save the children in the tower. And that Tabitha was now the chosen one. So I assume at some point Ethan will become sort of the new Victor? In S1 Victor tells Ethan the BIW chose him just like he chose Victor previously.
- Victor also says that the BIW first appeared after two cars arrived on the same day. And he saw him again when the Matthewses and Jade both arrived on the same day. Hmmm...
- The shack. a rundown shack in the forest. Boyd tells Frank about it and that he should go live there (instead of putting him in the box for killing his family). But Frank chooses the box anyway. Boyd also tells Sara to meet him there when he sneaks her out of town in S1.
- The log cabins. Jim and Kenny find these when they are out searching for Tabitha (when she went to the lighthouse and subsequently left the hell town). There is also food growing around there (mostly vegetables).
Control. The town (or whatever is in charge of it) controlling things:
- Sara and the worms in her arm sending her messages (i.e. kill Ethan).
- Sara also hears voices. They told her to kill Tobey and open the door – when Kenny’s dad dies. A (new) female voice spoke to Boyd through her when the two of them went out and stayed in the tent, it said they were making a mistake and there were worse things in the forest than the monsters. A voice spoke to Father Khatri through her confirming they knew about the bottle he buried (she drew a picture of the bag and the bottle
- Voice speaking to Jim on the radio warning him about Tabitha in the basement.
- Visions – Boyd sees Abby, Khatri, etc. Jade sees soldiers and others. Tabitha sees the kids, the block puzzle, etc. Tabitha, Victor, and Ethan see the BIW (or the other kids in white). Etc. Not sure if those are true visions and trying to help or if they are a part of the control exerted on the town by whoever is in charge.
- As Jim prepares to use the radio, the huge storm approaches. Maybe trying to prevent them from figuring shite out?
- At the same time, their basement collapses on Tabitha. Trying to prevent her from finding out shite too? And she had just found out that the wires don’t connect to anything. So how the frick do they have power?
- BIW tells Sara to push Boyd into the faraway tree, leading him to the bottom of the well.
- When Jim tries to save Tabitha in the basement, the house collapses. Intentional? ETA: could it be because Jim had all kinds of information written on the walls of their house, and was maybe figuring some things out and those in control didn't like that?
- The monsters tie Kelly up to a tree. Setting a trap?
- Jim tells Tabitha they are being watched (per the voice on the radio). Leads him to his “this is an experiment” ideas. He talks to Randall about it and says that experiments like that date back to WWII (although per the paper notes Boyd and Sara found we know this place is much older than that).
- Kenny’s dream – another phone call. “They touch, they break, they steal. No one here is free. Here they come, they come for three. Unless you stop the melody.” Then Paula dies from the cicadas. Then Randall is attacked by cicadas in the woods, Marielle sees cicadas and goes comatose, and Julie does too.
- Jim and Kenny leave to find the lighthouse but instead stumble upon the gardens of vegetables. So a distraction when they went looking for the only thing we know of that can get people out of there.
- The whole thing with the town wanting to break Boyd since he talked shite and said it can’t break him. So that’s the weather/cold, the dying crops, the monsters now setting traps and killing animals, killing Tian-Chen, etc.
- The phone call to Jim from Thomas. Just another thing to frick with the inhabitants of the town.
- Fatima and Elgin are talking about his dreams on the bus prior to getting here. She said that some people have dreamed about this place like it was calling out to them, but they just weren't listening or some shite like that. But it could be that the hell town draws people in.
- Dogs. Several times a dog or group of dogs have affected things. A dog led Bod near the Talisman Cave initially. Dogs surrounded Victor and Ethan. Etc.
- Victor’s father tells Tabitha his wife hallucinated often and said she was the chosen one to save the children in the tower. And that Tabitha was now the chosen one. In-show character theories on what is going on:
- Jim and Jade discuss if they died in their car crash and wonder if they are in purgatory.
- Sara thinks by obeying the voices and their messages (including ones on her arms with the worms) that she can get everyone home.
- Boyd suspects the town can cause physical reactions to people.
- Father Khatri’s theory is that there are 73 books in the bible and this is all a test by God to formulate a new 74th book.
- Jim wonders if it is all one big experiment by some sort of entity. Randall later buys into that and thinks someone in town is a mole helping out from the inside.
- Abby thought they were trapped in a nightmare and that by killing everyone she was sending them home/releasing them from this place.
- Voices tell Sara there are things worse than monsters in the woods.
- Martin tells Boyd the monsters are just the “tip of the spear.”
- Ethan notices similarities about this town and his stupid fricking Cromenockle story bullshite. I hate him.
- Jim talks to Randall and says that a lot of people have been pushed to their edge in this place, and he wonders if that’s sort of the point of it.
- When Boyd sees a vision of Abby in the dark church, just before destroying the music box, she tells him that it's hope that feeds this place, not fear.
Victor.
- He’s there from when he was a pretty young kid (less than 10). So he’s been there like 40+ years.
- His pictures. Are they drawings of things he’s seen, or does this place manifest shite from his mind?
- He was already in the tunnels when Tabitha fell down there when the basement collapsed. He also knows his way around the tunnels pretty well. It could be that he has simply been there before, but if he knows that’s where they sleep it seems like he wouldn’t have gone back in there. Yet he has the tunnels memorized.
- He knows all about faraway trees and how they work, and sometimes even where they send you (even though it is supposed to be random?). He also knew the one the BIW showed to him and Ethan was "new."
- He also knows about other trees, to the point of appearing to notice that they have moved ("four inches closer," he tells Ethan in S1)..
- His mother in the real world (or “real world”) painted pictures of tons of shite from the town. And she also created the bottle tree (as well as a replica in her back yard). That bottle tree will have major significance in the future I suspect.
- He never seems to be in any danger. Could he be one of the monsters at this point, but like a good one who is trying to help? It would make sense from a control perspective that you’d offer a shred of hope/help in the form of a grown, mentally disabled, troubled man so that nobody takes him seriously.
- He also refused to help Jade initially with the symbol even though he knew what it was (or something about it).
- He moved all the cars to the car graveyard (but apparently told nobody about it?).
- When Jade yells at Victor for not being forthright about his knowledge of the symbol and says that could be how they go home, Victor says that the town is his home and leaves.
- He has a sister (Eloise) who ran after their mom when she left him in the cellar.
- He knows which tree takes you to the lighthouse. So technically he knows how to get everyone there. Not sure if he knows it’s how you escape or not (I assume maybe not?), but he took Tabitha there to send her to the lighthouse.
- Victor also says that the BIW first appeared after two cars arrived on the same day. And he saw him again when the Matthewses and Jade both arrived on the same day.
- He may also be legit crazy, so everything I’ve just typed may mean nothing.

I don't expect many people to read all of it, but I wanted everything condensed into a post or two to help me stay less confused.
I'm reading all of it you magnificent son of a bitch. Keep posting. I wish I could join in more but time is tight at the moment.
I would like to respond to your comment about their acting. Has it improved since season 1? Yes. And I agree maybe not by so much but its something.
That being said, did all of these actors go to the same acting class? It's like they were all taught that a master actor is at his best when acting enraged and angry. These people are always bitching at each other relentlessly.
That Danny Bonaduce lookin bitch running that house on the hill is the main culprit. fricking chill out lady. You come at the Sheriff hard everytime. Why don't you deputy up and help the dude for once instead of always criticizing? shite.

Just finished E3. Damn the tree in the road! Tabitha going back to see her fam and give her wild update on all she’s been through will be interesting.
Ethan is obnoxious as hell. They shlildve just come out and told us he was on the spectrum or something to excuse his craziness

I've seen people joking on Twitter that they'll ask her what happened and she'll say "I don't want to talk about it."
I love the show to death, but if these fricking people don't start actually communicating with each other. Jim didn't tell anybody about his phone call did he? Because I remember Boyd asked him a couple times what was wrong. And Jade didn't tell anybody about what he was seeing in the woods.

Majority of the time when any of them are conversing they always seem overly short with each other whether the way they talk or via body language, facial expressions. As if there’s not enough anxiety as is

quote:no kidding, and this past episode when the kids are in the room with Jim bitching at him and then walk into the other room the phone immediately rings… ummmm uhh are none of them interested what the hell that’s about or if maybe it’s some info on their mom? Sure Jim expects the phone call to be a troll but the kids never even reentered the room

That has been my biggest complaint by far. I know that needs to happen in order for things to happen within the plot. But damn, nobody tells anybody else jack shite ever. All they talk about is working together and all that but they don’t actually share information. It’s frustrating. But I absolutely love the show though.

I get Jade not telling people about what he sees, but if I was Jim I would have been on in that road yelling to everyone that my phone just rang
