Sure, there's a hot, special girl, and a random guy who's tasked with protecting her, but that's pretty standard detective noir level stuff. Roger Rabbit wasn't too different. Except she was into the rabbit. He made her laugh.

"Straight rip off" is hyperbole, of course, but you need to go rewatch The Fifth Element. The whole flying cars urban environment looks identical. And you've got another retro noir-type tough guy interacting with a bunch of crazy looking aliens. i'm sure the story is different, but the world looks the same. I'm all for it.

I was replying to Handsome Pete. Blade Runner and The 5th Element have nearly identical aesthetics, with a dark, gritty , urban element, futuristic tech, flying cars… Both very similar to this movie. And like 5th Element, this movie has a random guy, who gets paired up with a high value, attractive woman.
