The Gentlemen

Had a buddy tell me it was his favorite movie of all time. I thought that was silly, and it soured my first watch. Thought it was okay but nothing special.

Watched it again some time later and loved it. He’s still crazy, but it is a damn good flick.

Great answer. So many great actors playing against their usual type, and not the plot I expected at all. It is a great movie when you know what the hell is going on.

The Big Lebowski is the standard bearer for me on this topic. I thought it was stupid the first time I saw it, I watched it again when nothing else was on and now it's one of my favorite and most rewatchable movies

Last of the Mohicans

Thought it was a tedious and overwrought retread right after Dances With Wolves. Watched it again on cable or VHS and fell in love with it. It’s so much deeper and interesting. The music. The cinematography.

One of my favorites.

I thought Dumb and Dumber and Napoleon Dynamite were stupid when I first saw them. Now I really appreciate the comedy and they have so many iconic scenes and lines.

I liked Pulp Fiction a little because of some cool parts when I first viewed it, but I didn’t like the non-chronological aspect of it. Within a few years it was one of my favorite movies.

Hated Napoleon Dynamite first time I watched it. Was good every time after. Not sure how well it holds up now.

My date to that movie.... didn't realize the girl was blind until it was plainly pointed out by the outsider.

She also kissed like a damned gecko.

Almost ruined the whole movie experience. Didn't ask her out again but I at least told her she sucked at kissing so hopefully she worked on it.

I wasn’t a fan of Anchorman the first time I watched it at the movie theater. Every time I watched it after, I found it hilarious.

The Talented Mr Ripley

Walked out of the theater the first time I saw it in college. It’s not one of my favorites, but I watched it again a few years ago and I realized my immaturity judged it the first time. It’s a solid flick

This one too. I couldn’t appreciate it until I got older. Now I watch it and at the end just sit there watching him riding in the cab in silence with a zen feeling like I’m sure he finally has with all the weight off him.

Zoolander

i was like 21 when it came out and maybe i was either too drunk/high or not drunk/high enough the first time i watched it but I thought it was sooo dumb!

watched it a second time either sober or in the correct amount of drunk/high and laughed my arse off and have seen it dozens of times since.

The Other Guys is a perfect fit to this thread.

I love this movie, and glad you came to like it. However, I’m shocked you found this movie to be tedious. It’s less than 2 hours. Also, it is pretty much a sprint, literally DDL is sprinting most of the movie, from start to finish.
