Ridley Scott has made a beautiful, atmospheric film, utilizing 3D sparingly and well. There are shots of planets in orbit that stun, and there are moments of nail-biting anxiety that are perfectly put together. But the visuals of the film cannot hold up the whole thing, and the script (by Damon Lindelof from an original draft by Jon Spaights) is a completely unsound foundation. The script is incompetent in a way that is hard to believe while watching the film; characters reach out to pet obviously scary space snakes, characters speak in bad, baldly expositional declarations, characters have no character. Once the team gets to the vase chamber Prometheus slowly begins unraveling, and the terrible dialogue and uninspired acting that was merely a nuisance during the more interesting first act becomes an unbearable problem. Finally by the end the movie has turned into a truly moronic monster mash that resembles the final chase of any given Friday the 13th film more than anything else in Scott’s ouevre.

I just can't seem to get pumped about this movie...I go back and forth on it. I do want to see it, I just am not dying to like some others seem to be. However, I do understand why people are overhyped about it...I just can't seem to get there.

i was very pumped until i got oversaturated with trailers/previews and they started the cross promotional marketing like with the NBA playoffs. i can't take it that serious anymore, and i'm worried that it's going to be too commercial

i'm sure it will be solid but i don't have real expectations for it

Yea the trailers/previews seemed to have revealed a ton of the movie.

this is a movie where i've tried to avoid trailers as much as possible, but it's been tough with their NBA tie in

the first "long" trailer basically revealed the entire plot. now it just comes down to who lives, who dies, and how they all die

I saw the First Look on HBO and it actually got me excited about the movie. It didn't reveal much about the plot. It just showed a lot of the set and how they made the ship. I am going to reserve my judgment, but I will defnitely go see it in the theatre.

I'm a RS fan and a big Alien series guy but if this review is accurate, it won't be the first time Scott has failed so it won't be that surprising.

For me though, it's much easier to watch and keep me entertained during a bad sci-fi movie than a bad CIA espionage film.

I always figured they would all die, or get lost or something just to make it fit in the Alien universe, but yeah, I stopped watching the trailers after the first long one

yeah now i'm basically hoping for a movie that looks cool and has good acting (the cast is great)

i hope scott can turn the visuals/location into a few tense scenes to keep me interested

i just hope that the whole motivation for the villains isn't a cop out

I think you've tempered your expectations enough to enjoy it now

I've been cutting the TV off during trailers all summer so that I could be surprised when I saw Avengers, Prometheus, and tDKR. It worked great for Avengers, hoping that it will for the latter two as well.

Regardless of one negative early review I am still going to the midnight release for this. I have waited far too long.

They have flooded me with advertising which IMO means it's going to be average.

I have read a couple possible plot summaries on it, and it doesn't show much potential.

Every plot summary I see have it closely resembling Star Trek 5 The Final Frontier. Same concepts and journey in some ways..
