Really enjoyed this one. I didn't think the flight/space shots were as well done as Apollo 13, but still a solid flick for anyone interested in history or the space program.

There really wasn't a lot of advertisement for this film. The first I heard of it was when the whole flag controversy flared up.

I didn't care about them not including the flag (I'm not sure if they did or didn't, I've read conflicting accounts of this), but their response was just silly.

I was disappointed by it, to be honest. 6/10. Pretty boring

Something along the lines of "The moon landing wasn't an American accomplishment, but a human accomplishment." And I understand why they believe they had to say it, but I also understand the pushback to that response. The moon landing was an exclusively American accomplishment.

Our ringers were better than the Soviet ringers.

But, the original point stands - the Apollo Program was a statement to the world about American economic and technological dominance.

The filmmakers chose poorly in that regard and their sheepish response to it. The flag is on the uniform. The flag is on the rocket. The flag is on the capsule. Planting the flag was the third most significant aspect to the entire mission after landing and first steps.

The game that was started by Sputnik in orbit ended at the Mare Tranquillitatis. USA 42 USSR 10

I thought it was excellent in how it depicted how dangerous and unknown these missions were. They were huge risks the Gemini/Apollo astronauts really were jumping off the edge of the earth into the unknown. No scientific accomplishment has come close to the moon landing nearly 50 years ago.

only because the number of theaters each movie was shown in. Per screening Goosebumps beat them.

I don't see how the movie will turn a profit. Especially when their will be a limited overseas market.

Particularly because Gosling isnt an American it came off as

The thing is they also tried to paint it as the movie is a portrait of Neil. Id imagine hed agree that planting the flag is one of the top 10 most important moments in his life

Thoroughly enjoyed it besides the old ladies behind me feeling the need to let everybody in the theater know that she remembers this and that. Acting was top notch.

it is deserved. We did it to shot it in the face of everyone in the world saying we are better then everyone.

I want to see it, but i think its crazy that Fox News and other outlets are telling people to boycott it.

My dad is doing it for this reason. Why do we have to make everything so political. Just go see a good film

Maybe it's happening, but I haven't seen a major push for a boycott. I saw this film over the weekend and enjoyed it overall. I probably would have been disappointed had I not looked at some of the early reviews describing it more as a biopic rather than a space race story. That saved me from unmet expectation.

I look at it as a missed opportunity to tell an extraordinarily interesting story of human achievement and opt to split the baby of art and entertainment. Maybe it exists, but I would like to hear Damien Chazelle describe his concept for this movie. I don't feel like this would be the desired result for a potential blockbuster.

Edit: I did not feel the lack of planting the flag took away from the film at all. As others have stated, the flag is evident in many scenes including on the moon. Gosling's answer in that interview created a situation that could have easily been avoided. The movie certainly has issues, but that isn't one of them.

I must've been drunk when I watched this movie, because I swear they showed the American flag on the moon.

The main thing I got from the moon scene (other than the actual landing and he making the famous speech) was letting go of his baby girl's bracelet while recalling memories of he and her in the backyard showing her the moon - having a total father to daughter moment. I got choked up in that scene. In fact, if anybody was paying attention in this movie, it wasn't just a strict account of what happened, but rather threw in the family and personal history background of the Armstrong family, from the baby dying to the struggles between he and his wife.

People are fricking stupid. Was it really that necessary to see them planting the flag? Good Lord! We know it happened.
