“Lanterns,” the upcoming Green Lantern TV show from DC Studios and HBO, dropped a first look at Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as the main heroes, John Stewart and Hal Jordan.
They may not be dressed up in their Green Lantern uniforms, but if you look closely you can see a green ring on Chandler’s finger. Otherwise, the two leads are in their civilian clothes and walking down a deserted highway.
Per the official logline, the series follows “new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan and Ulrich Thomsen as Green Lantern villain Sinestro.

Say what you want about Superhero properties today, the two actors alone have me excited for this

Aaron Pierre is exactly what I pictured John Stewart would look like in real life.

POSSIBLE SPOILER
This is probably just internet fodder but who knows. A lot of people have speculated he’ll die in this including those like campea etc

That black guy looks a pit bull in human form

I do think he dies, but I'm not buying that it happens in episode 1. That seems absurd. Kyle Chandler isn't signing on for one episode

They could do flashbacks throughout.

I think it’d make sense if he gets abducted or something, maybe to Salvation, in an early episode and Pierre spends most of the show trying to track him down true detective style. Maybe he shows up briefly toward the end and they kill him off that way

It should also be noted that for a certain generation of fans, John Stewart, not Hal Jordan, is the quintessential Green Lantern (thanks to the DCAU's Justice League and Justice League Unlimited). Depending on the target demographic that could play a part on screentime.

Wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened to him on a show.

I'm trying to remain positive about Gunn's DC, but if Hal Jordan has minimal screen time in this, I'm ready to hop off the train.

Superhero content can revive the dead in unlimited ways if they ever want to

Hal Jordan's resurrection was the catalyst for the Blackest Night storyline (which was to point out all the folks DC had resurrected over the years). Nekron (DC's counter to life) was the main villain.
Hal Jordan
Barry Allen
Superman
Wonder Woman
This doesn't include the people resurrected specifically at the end of the arc.
Someone else made this list back in 2021... looks fairly thorough, mostly major characters (and heroes) only though (plenty of villains have also been brought back - hell, the Joker was supposed to die in his first appearance but they added a panel at the end to keep him alive):

I figured the down votes were probably because they were thinking Jon Stewart instead of John Stewart.
This is John (with an "h") Stewart:
One thing I love about him in the comics is, as a former Marine, he makes a lot of military weapons with his ring, including a sniper rifle on multiple occasions.
