Looking forward to this one. Not a comic book reader and wouldn’t consider myself a DC fan outside of Batman and a handful of seasons of CW’s Arrow and Flash. I get the gist of the Lanterns but I only have the Ryan Reynolds movie to compare this too. Hoping this is closer to the style and tone of The Penguin than what Gunn has given us so far, although I did like Peacemaker. I like the comparisons to True Detective as long as they aren’t talking about Night Country

If memory serves, the original pitch was some sort of Star Trek: TOS/Twilight Zone/X-Files storytelling where Hal and John were going around the galaxy getting into moral quandaries and solving mysteries. No idea if that's still part of the idea if they go beyond the first season though.

The point was that the dad was such a harsh taskmaster that he routinely put his kids' lives in danger. Those lessons helped create John's foundation of being fearless.

The reviews are out and the vast-majority are very positive. I stopped reading them due to the spoilers. I haven't found a negative review yet.

Sounds like it isn't much of a "comic booky" show, so it'll be interesting to see how fans react to it
