Watched most of it with my wife last week on hbo. I thought it was pretty clever at the beginning but the heavy handedness of the pro female stuff lost its dragged it down really quickly. I feel like they could’ve gone for the same thing in a more subtle, clever way but it was almost paint by numbers by the end.

I got the impression in the first 20 mins until I stopped watching that it would have been much funnier if I was high.

I went in actually expecting to hate it, considering the overt anti-patriarchy premise, but came out pleasantly surprised.
No matter how popcorny, I'm a sucker for universe-colliding/fish-out-of-water movies (Free Guy, Back to the Future, Edge of Tomorrow, Spiderman Across the Universe, Matrix, Star Trek 4, Stargate, etc). I did not know Barbie had that element. I was entertained just by that.

Not quite... but I did laugh at the Pavement reference in the movie...
Watched with the missus and thought it was fun... Had no clue what it was about and it took me a minute to adjust, but overall I liked.
Have no desire to see it again (actually, had no desire to see it to begin with)..

I see I got the lyrics wrong lol. I bought that album in 1997 and used to listen to Shady Lane a lot but never became a big fan of theirs but I definitely respect them a lot as a band.

yeah, the verse makes more sense ^^this way^^
That said, Malkmus' lyrics are not known for being straight forward or making much sense... all good

Fun fact. Wolfgang Van Halen and Slash played some guitar solos for the movie.

I watched this with my wife a few weeks ago and she “loved it” and even teared up near the end, if that answers your question.
I feel ya. I watched it with my gf, and she cried a couple times in the movie. I was horrified at how bad it was and still sorta judge her for loving it. I say that largely jokingly as folks can be into whatever they want, but it’s an objectively awful movie

I watched it last night and I loved it! I am gonna watch it again with my little brother (he lives across the street). I think he will get a kick at all the little jabs.
My favorite part when Barbie was supposed to look average and not beautiful...when the voice over says "Margo Robbie should not have been cast in this role to make this point" (or something like that).
Then I watched "The Devil Wears Prada" based on someone on this boards guilty pleasures and I enjoyed it as well.
Maybe it was the vodka and "cookies"...but I had fun last night.
Worst case scenario...you get to look at Margo Robbie for 2 hours.

Haven't seen it, but I was flying back from DC last week and a lady in front of me had it on. She lasted about 10 minutes then turned it to something else. Made me wonder how bad it must be to last 10 minutes on a flight.
Maybe it gets good but i did the same thing, i couldnt stand the opening and that stupid song. It was terrible.

So it’s safe to say you cannot feel the Kenergy, then?

So, is essence you discovered you do have a set of balls after all and this chick-flick drivel is not your cup of tea.
Welcome to manhood.

For me it was 1 hour and 55 minutes of bleh and 5 minutes of peak entertainment with I'm Just Ken.

I just watched it. This movie was 95% complete trash.
The only thing I found endearing was the twist of Barbie figuring out it was the mom who was trying to connect with her. The montage of the daughter growing up from the mom’s perspective is the only heartfelt part of the entire movie.
Other than Margot Robbie looking pretty and Ryan Gosling had a couple funny moments discovering the real world, it was a movie void of any charm or intelligence. Definitely not a kids movie. Not a comedy. Not a movie men would like. Will Ferrell isn’t funny. This movie was made for middle age women who hate men and hate themselves.
It also came off too much like a musical.
A shame good actors participated in this poor of script.
This was soul-less fluff…aside from maybe 30 seconds

The "quality" of the movie was irrelevant to its box office success.
It became a viral social media event type thing. Large groups of women and girls would do a "barbi night" and they'd all dress in pink and go see the movie for a girl's night out.
