It irks me when I watch Blue Chips with Nick Nolte, and he's supposed to go to Algiers to watch Shaq's character play. He ends up taking a skiff to the bayou, and hopping out in the tall weeds where a rustic wooden Algiers sign is.
I'm with ya. Its like The Client, Susan Sharandon and the kid are driving in from Memphis and they show their car heading into to NOLA across the Ms River Bridge from the Westbank.
fwiw I've notice stuff like that in movies set in Chicago, so I assume they do to everywhere.

Or in The Toy with Richard Pryor when they are driving in Louisiana and there are mountains in the background.
But to answer the original question and get back on topic, I would have to say Interview with a Vampire I guess. There isn't really one that was set in N.O. that I loved.

It's hard for me to get into movies set in New Orleans, particularly with the way Parade season is portrayed, or accents.

There's a horrible movie called "No Mercy" with Richard Gere and Kim Basinger. Gere is a Chicago cop who comes to N.O. to catch a bad guy. Algiers is portrayed as an exotic, dangerous, sort of underground part of town. At one point Gere is told by a bartender with a thick unknown accent, "They'll cut your tongue out in Algiers . . . "

this happens in every city though... you are just aware of it because you are familiar with NOLA.
Absolutely true. I guess the locals here react because N.O. is pretty unique and a lot of films try to portray that aspect with varying degrees of success.
My favorites:
Panic in the Streets
The Big Easy notwithstanding Quaid's accent
Runaway Jury . . . made the city look great,
and was fairly accurate

my favorite is The Drowning Pool with Paul Newman

Right now, Benjamin Button. But if they ever make a movie out of A Confederacy of Dunces (and do it right, of course), then that would be the correct answer.

Great call.

Runaway Jury or Angel Heart for me.
Big Easy and Hard Target = some of the worst N.O. accents i have ever heard. Hearing Dennis Quaid pronounce "cher" like "share" and Wilfred Brimleys' god awful cajun make those two movies unwatchable....
